While many conventional Muskie fishermen view fly fishing as an unrealistic way to catch Muskies, the sport of fly fishing Muskies continues to gain popularity. Few know that there are at least two guiding services in Wisconsin that exclusively fish for Muskies armed only with a fly rod. Their guiding service is booming. And why not, as they consistently put Muskies in the boat with the same regularity as those throwing casting outfits.
Then, this morning I get an email from a guy sending me this information concerning the world championships of Muskie fly fishing:
http://www.muskychampionship.com/
If you read through the rules and regulations, you will see that this tourney is going to run just like the River Bassin Tourney my buddy Jim and I won last July. Catch-n-release with pictures for proof of catch. This type of tourney may be the future of fishing tournaments. As you can see on the site, they already have guys signed up and have an impressive number of company sponsors. If it was not so far away, I would seriously considering sending in my entry fee. Of course, with my limited amount of Muskie fishing experience, my chances of winning would next to none, but think of all the information I could glean from guys who have been catching Muskies on the fly for years.
If you still think that fly fishing for Muskies is a “when hell freezes over” type of thing, check out these two links of two guiding services in Wisconsin. Check out the size and numbers of Muskies they catch on the fly:

I know I cannot wait to get over to Spring Lake this spring…..........................................
Jonn,
You should buy the book called “Muskies on the Fly”. It is written by a gentleman named Robert Tomes. In the muskie world he is considered the #1 expert when it comes to fly fishing for muskies.
I have had the pleasure of having him in my boat 2 or 3 times. The things he can make a fly do and look like are simply amazing.
He also writes articles for Musky Hunter magazine and gives seminars at the largest muskie show in the world up in Chicago.

Thad:
I have been meaning to buy that book. We carry it at Bass Pro, but a guy bought the only copy last Sunday. I hope we get another into the shop asap. I met Robert years and years ago, long before he wrote the book…........great guy. Did he have any luck when fishing with you? Do you have any pictures of Robert with a Muskie?

Hi Jonn,
Yes, Robert had several lookers when we fished together. He had a real heavy looking 44-45” fish up on a black/orange streamer at Evergreen one day.
I can pictures of Robert with muskies no trouble at all. Would you like me to email you some pics?
You can buy his book through this website if you would like:
