I am very happy that Jeff has asked me to continue to blog on his brand new Website. In addition, make sure to pick up Jeff’s magazine, Heartland Outdoors, each and every month to read an article by yours truly.
I have not blogged for a while so here is a quick summary with pictures of my travels the past few weekends:
First up, I traveled to the Kankakee River to fish with a fellow fly fisherman named Ron. Ron has been fly fishing forever and was able to put me on a few smallies. No fish pictures, but here is a pic of the might Kanakakee, our state’s finest smallmouth bass river:
Also, on that same weekend, I traveled to the home stomping grounds to hunt some more Hen of the Woods mushrooms with Dad. We found four. Good thing we took the John Deere Gator, or we would not been able to carry this many pounds of mushrooms back to the truck:
Now, this past weekend I had two guide trips. Saturday I fished with Dave and the bite was tough, but Dave was able to squeak out five smallies and one pike. I did a little fishing as well and caught a few smallies and two real nice pike. Here is Dave with a nice smallie and a couple of pike pics while they were in the water:
On Sunday I fished with long-time client Don. Don and I did a float trip and the fishing was great! Don caught 25 smallies and one 30 inch Pike. Bottom baits did the trick on the smallies.
Sure was a great weather weekend. I plan to be on the water next Saturday and Sunday chasing bronzies and Pike once again. I will report.
AS ALWAYS…....................HAIL TO THE SMALLIE
Hey Jonn
How close were you to Momence on the Kankakee river? We go over the Kankakee river on the train thru Momence. Ive alaways heard it was good Smallie and Walleye fishing around the dam at Momence. Pretty slow over this way, river almost looks dried up. Have a good one.
