Received this photo yesterday.  My good buddy, and Illinois’ Pike Guru, Jake Bresson connected with his first pike of 2012.  Caught it yesterday afternoon on an orange X-Rap.  Definitely a dandy Pike and to catch it on the last day of January makes it extra special…..............Congrats Jake.  Cannot wait to “hook up” with you soon and tangle with a few Pike myself.  I am going to get one of those bad boys on the fly rod this year.

Thanks for the kind words Jonn. I’m looking forward to the next time we are able to get out in search of esox lucius!

I don’t know what an Esox Lucius is, but I love them Pike.

Pike are a banned species out here in the State of California.

I just heard the other day that pike are an invassive species in some lakes up in Alaska and that you are required to keep everyone you catch.  Guess its been that way for some years now.  Just figured I’d let you know incase anyone needed a break from this “awful” weather we’ve been having, hahaha.

Thanks Frank she sure was a pleasant surprise! No rush on those lures since I think it will be a few more weeks before I am able to be out on a regular basis. Jonn showed me one of the lures you made for him when we fished a few weeks back. That’s a good looking lure!

Tuna, I’ve seen some stuff on pike in California. I suppose that’s what happens when you introduce species into non-native areas. There are obviously plenty of examples of it! At least pike are native to Illinois so I don’t have to worry about them being banned. I just wish they got a little more respect in the “catch, photo, release” area…

The next two months are the best time in my opinion to hook up with one of those water wolves.
