I just wanted to take this time to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I would also like to say thanks to all the readers who take time out of their day to share some of their experiences and tips. This really is a rare web site in that everyone can take something positive from it while contributing to it themselves.
This has certainly been an interesting hunting season. I had many doubts before my season even began. My tall grass fields were being tore up and turned over to plant alfalfa next Spring (I know, a Fall planting would be better), my neighbor was removing a shared fence, dozing the line, ripping trees out and replacing fence on one of my busiest fencelines and a host of other small, but deer-deterring, issues. Yet, with all that going on, I still had a great season. No bruisers, though I was ridiculously close to the biggest deer I’ve ever seen while hunting, but I did get some meat in the fridge and my son had some great success too. I’ve been out of commission for the past few weeks due to some wrist surgery, but I’m hoping rehab/therapy gets me back in the stand and able to pull a bow back for the last week of the season. We’ll see. Wifey says “NO”, but me thinks YES. This web site has really come in handy with me not being able to hunt. It’s the next best thing. In all honesty, it’s a far 2nd…a reeeaaallllyyyy far 2nd behind actually hunting, but a great way to stay in the game and see how everyone else is doing. Hopefully I’ll see my bruiser in that last week if I can get out there, and hopefully you had a great season as well.
I wish you all well…and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hope you see that giant again or at least he makes it until next year. I missed the biggest buck I have ever seen in the woods this year so I can relate to the disappointment. Good luck

Thanks. Hoping my standing beans and my lack of intrusion bring him out during daylight again if I get out there. I had him at 6 yards for over 15 minutes. 6 YARDS! The cool thing was that on my way into that stand that afternoon, I pulled two SD cards. When I got home with my head hanging low, I was gifted with two videos of him just days prior and only 75 yards from that stand.

Right back at ya, John. Thanks for the great articles; hopefully the wrist, the wife, and Mother Nature will allow you to get that big buck.

Thanks, Walston. I think my therapist made the decision for me today. He told me I could go back to work in about a week and a half…Guess he didn’t know I was back to work a day and a half after the surgery…oops. He said he doubts he’ll be able to get back in a stand this season. I’m still going to try to prove him wrong.
Freak…are you back in the stand yet? How’s that thumb?

Interesting it has been… Dealt with many of the same issues with farmers clearing fences and pasture ground on our lease property… As for BIG deer, all I can do is cry… Shot the deer I have always wanted on Nov. 4th and hit a little far back.. Did everything in my powers to find him but no go… Was a clean 10 that was pushing 180”... Still have a couple days in the woods so hopefully I can redeem myself… Good luck to those that have a chance to get out a couple more times and congrats to those that have tagged out… Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all…
