Crappie biting at Kentucky Lake

Wed, January 18, 2012

crappie mess

Cold weather has finally descended on us here in northern Illinois, ending what had been an extended open-water fishing season.

But there’s always open water somewhere. And in the case of Kentucky Lake, that open water holds plenty of slab crappie – as reported by guide Steve Welch.

“I just got back from Kentucky Lake and we got some real pigs. We caught a 17-incher and three 15-inch fish and about 20 that were 14-inchers. In two days we brought home 147 and didn’t keep anything under
11 inches.”

Below are Tim Houke (left), Steve Welch and Alan Corzine with the 147 crappie kept after their Jan. 10-11 trip.

Great catch but isn’t the limit on KY lake 20 fish per person? That would mean there limit for 2 days would be 120 right?
