Youth deer season may not have produced record totals, but it did make for some happy youngsters.

Peter Brandon, 9, of Decatur shot this button buck Sunday during the Illinois youth season.

He made a nice 75-yard shot with his 20-gauge BPS and a 2 3/4-inch slug. “Nice clean shot, the little guy moved about two feet and dropped,” said his father, Dave Brandon.

Peter called while hunting.

And then he walked up on his deer and had a brief moment of uncertainty, according to his father. But that soon passed and he was all smiles.

Nice story Big Dave.  I hope he continues to have success.
