A good idea for freezing crappie

Sat, February 11, 2012

Here’s a slick idea for freezing fish that are ready to fry from Rend Lake fishing guide Travis Greenwood.

Travis works with Todd Gessner, the old legend of the lake. And this is a good idea. Nothing worse than having to wait to thaw a whole sack of fish when all you need is a few filets. Check it out.

Thats how we do mushrooms, works great.  Never thought about fish.

my wife has always done that with mushrooms, but she 1/2 cooks them first-then freezes them.  then drops them in the hot skillet frozen and it doesn’t take very long to finish cooking them and they aren’t soggy!

I’ve been doing my walleyes from lake erie like that for years. i use a cookie sheet spread them out freeze them overnight then in a ziplock baggie nothing new there

I love this method - because you are so right.. I hate having a whole gallon ziplock bag to un thaw and use up when I maybe only need a couple of fillets for supper . Thanks for sharing this!

Right on Walmsley, I do the same thing with my schrooms. Very seldom though do I use a gallon bag to freeze fish in unless they are catfish fillets, I stay with the qt. bags they hold about 2 to 2 1/2 lbs. of fillets just right for Momma and I for supper and then leftovers for lunch, and I freeze them with water in the bag. My question with the method above is how long can they go before freezer burn is a problem?
