A reader sent this disturbing image to me today from his friend’s Fulton, Co. IL. farm. This buck was found recently in the same condition you see it now. The story is there are outfitters across the street from this farm but not really sure who is the blame.
I’m not against outfitters, in fact, I think hunters need access when pursuing animals that are not common in their area, or just to hunt period. I am against local idiots and out-of-state people (I’m not calling them hunters because they don’t deserve to be called that) whom kill for the sake of antlers and leave the carcass to waste. I believe that this type of behavior goes on more than we know! It’s a shame that we don’t have enough CPO’s to monitor more areas and it’s even more disheartening to know that our hunting revenue dollars are shoveled out to non-hunting interests when we could place extra funding in our own system.
I used to express concern over the Illinois deer herd when I was with PSO, only to get ridiculed from hunters that are in denial. Ask any hunter you know if our herd is dwindling and you’ll get about 70% of them agreeing that it is now. We have more poaching, more tags, more seasons that ever before. It’s getting real folks!
I applaud the efforts of our CPO’s and many of the employees from the DNR for doing their best with the limited resources they have. Contrary to what most anti-hunters believe, many hunters, like myself, actually enjoy animals and can’t stand to see them go to waste. For this reason alone is why I find it disturbing for anyone to shoot a penned deer, cripple an animal from not taking the time to practice with their weapon and to have a gutless conscious to be able to kill an animal and leave their body to waste.
How dare anyone place headhunters in the same category as these disgusting rats! What a shame.

I don’t see a bullet or arrow wound anywhere. Are they sure it wasn’t hit by a car or something?

The person whom sent this to me said the buck was poached and evidence reflects it. The wound is probably on the other side.

I’ve seen that before. More than once. Disgusting. My first thought was that it may be a roadkill as well. Did he see a bullet or arrow hole?

With a gun or a bow for sure! This is one of four dead deer!

MARK,Do you see heads come in your shop that way? No cape just the head cut off? If so does it make you wonder how the deer was taken.

I hope karma kicks the guys that done this in the face..What a waste!!!!Its stuff like this that makes us all look bad…...

MANYLABS22, no I don’t. Very few people aren’t educated in how to cut the neck skin off below the brisket. I’m glad to say that I rarely get anything suspicious looking and always get the proper tags or I won’t touch it! When my shop gets inspected by the CPO’s, I’m happy to say, everything is up to par, and it’s going to stay that way.

That’s disgusting. How can anybody do that and live with themself? You’re right Marc - they don’t deserve to be called hunters. A real hunter probably looks at this the same way our native americans did when they saw buffalo shot just for their tongues and hides.

I mean…i just dont get this kind of behavior…some people are just pure scum. If only we could catch these (explicit) in action!

This is why landowners should be putting up security around their properties. I’m sure that would be hard with tillable land, but any non-tillable open land that people can spotlight should be surrounded by security cover like CRP or a corn strip. Many companies sell that type of stuff. Just a thought. I agree with you all as well.

regardless of how this buck was taken, (archery, gun, poached, vehicle) the hunter should have atleast taken the rest of the deer and donated it. if hit by vehicle and found with head intact, it should have been reported to CPO and then tagged and removed, my thoughts are being from around the area, it was probably poached and thrown in the ditch, disgusting!

Marc I feel the same as you - last years gun season I had a high speed come apart (all over three counties and 47 internet sites) when I came upon a pile - as I recall a total of 5 bucks just like this dumped in a turn around at the end of the road in A PUBLIC LAND hunting area.. I was angry, ashamed, and ready to spit nails… many non hunters also visit this area as it offers great waterfowl and eagle watching opportunities in the winter.. I’m sure that sight helped strengthen a few anti’s beliefs and may have even created a few new anti’s….
