Mon, October 18, 2010

Last week while electrofishing a 6 acre private lake near Elkhart, Illinois we came across this big flathead catfish:

This week while electrofishing a 6 acre lake near Dunlap, Illinois for the Radnor Rod and Camping Club we came across this big flathead catfish:

Just to give you a bit of a reference at how big those flatheads were, here is one of Herman Brothers finest male models showcasing this regular sized flathead catfish:

Flatheads are awesome, I’ve shocked up 2 this summer that have been close to the 50lb mark.

Hey Blake,
What have you been up to this summer? Where did you get the big flatheads??

Posted by Nate on October 19

they sure do fight better on rod and reel! lol

I’m still working for the IL Natural History Survey, we shocked one of the flatheads on the Wabash River and the other near Beardstown.

Josh, I definitely would prefer using a rod and reel, but electrofishing would be close second. It actually really exciting to find stuff like those big flatheads where you arent expecting them.

Blake, I was just checking in to see if you landed a job for a big fish company somewhere yet? Sampling rivers is pretty neat eh?

I’ll be here through the winter for sure then back to job hunting. Running the river every day is awesome, it’s constantly changing so there is something interesting every day.
