Keep Your Noggin Toasty!

Wed, January 04, 2012

When the cold winds blow, one of the best tools for staying warm is to keep our noggins covered and keep that precious body heat from escaping out the top of our heads. Nothing does a better job of keeping your head and ears warm and toasty than a Prois Sherpa Fleece beanie.

Yep that’s me..sporting the Sherpa Beanie…I’ll be wearing it until Spring thaw.

I received my beanie as a gift from my pal and fellow WON Gun Barb Baird over at Women’s Outdoor News late last spring, and it felt so good, so soft and comfy I was almost yearning for cold weather so I would have a chance to wear it.  The first thing I noticed when I tried it on was that it was a little larger and longer than the average “beanie”. This made me infinitely happy because well, the sad truth is, I have a fat head. Yep a big old fat head.  Add to that, I tend to stuff my braids or ponytail up under my sock hats/beanies and generally the darn things are just too small, or they ride up leaving me looking like a conehead.  A fatheaded, messy haired,  conehead at that.

Not the case with the Prois beanie. It stays put. It has room for ponytails and braids.  It’s soft , fluffy and warm. Very warm and cozy, like a favorite blanket.  The warmth and coziness comes from the special Prois Sherpa fleece that has been designed to offer the most warmth and comfort during some of the coldest temperatures.

Given my propensity for for falling in dirt and mud and my over all messy personality, I was very pleased to see that it launders beautifully – just a quick trip through the washer in cold water and dried on low and it comes out just as soft and fluffy as the day it arrived.  I might add that while it makes no claims about being water resistant, I’ve found that on those miserable cold, drizzly, or snowy days chasing waterfowl it’s not only kept my ears warm, but it’s kept my head dry as well.  It’s snug, close, formed to my head fit makes fit well under the hoods on my truly waterproof gear, on the days I encounter the real deluges.

The only improvement that Prois could make on this winter must have is to make it reversible to blaze orange like the equally warm, cozy and well thought out Sherpa Reversible Vest. If only it would reverse to blaze orange I would need no other winter hat.

While I realize this is a ladies beanie..I think many of the fellas I plunder around with are tempted to steal it when my back is turned !
