Busy, busy, busy! The weekend made for some “touring” of Southern Illinois; starting Saturday night at the annual Retriever’s Unlimited HRC banquet in O’Fallon. Just have to crow a little - I was given the 2011 President’s award! Yes me! This was especially meaningful to me because I have gotten so much help, advice, friendship and fun from my friends at RU. They have been invaluable in helping me train Willie and learn about the world of hunt tests. I darn near got all girly and teary.

After the late night at the banquet, I was up early and headed to Marion for the Southern Illinois Boat and Fishing Show; really enjoyed having the time to talk with friends and readers who stopped by to visit the heartland booth.

Camo the Clown was hoot to visit with!

I sent several readers from Heartland over to visit with the folks at Bowfishing Association of Southern Illinois; they had questions about bowfishing and the crew from BASI was busy all day recruiting new folks to the world of bowfishing.

One of the great things about the Marion show was it’s close proximity to Crab Orchard, and of course I had to make a little lap through on my way home . Great wildlife viewing on the wildlife loop. The fields were full of deer, turkeys, and gasp - even a few waterfowl who didn’t get the memo about Southern Illinois not being a waterfowl hotspot this year.

Now I’m packed and ready to head out to the NWTF National Convention, so stay tuned for posts and updates; I’ve made my list of your requests and will be trying hard to bring you what you are looking for!
