I am as guilty as anyone about obsessing too much about deer (notice some obsessing is OK). Really though there is so much more than just deer hunting, just crappie fishing, just trap shooting. What about all the other outdoor joys in life.
Remember what got you in the woods when you were young.
Was it your first BB gun from Christmas?

Was it running a trap line with friends and family?

Was it learning to use a game call or even displaying a collection of some of your favorite outdoor tools. Here is a cool idea Shad Arington had for showing of his turkey calls, what a cool table, my mind is spinning with ideas now.

Maybe it’s the thought of that first Muskie follow you got and then actually landed one.

The outdoor experience is all things outdoors, it’s camping, it’s cooking, it’s shooting and collecting, it’s Heartland Outdoors! It’s your website, thanks for making it great and sharing all your adventures.
Remember it’s not all about inches of antler, that is so far away from the heart of a real sportsman or woman. It’s about memories and relationships, make some new ones in 2012
Until then, God bless,
Matt Cheever ~ Flatlander
Went on my first spot and stalk for starlings yesterday:)My son got a pellet rifle and we made 3 attempts but came up emptyhanded…It was priceless….

Unfortunately I can’t stop obsessing about deer.

“It’s about memories and relationships, make some new ones in 2012.” Matt, I think you just gave us all great ideas for our New Year’s resolution! That says it all.

I too have a problem with obsessing over deer…deer stands…trail cams…and everything else that comes with them!

I have a serious case of OCD, aka Obsessive Compulsive DEERorder…But I never miss a chance to get others involved in the outdoors…Be it fishing, mushroom hunting, cutting firewood, shed huning, or just going for a walk to find dinosaur poop…LOL
Speaking of, we will be shooting trap on New Years Day…Nothing like spending time outside with friends and families…

Great words Matt! While we each have our area of “expertise” and favorite outdoor interest - it’s the whole package that keeps us trooping outside day after day
