Iowa Walmart Buck

Sat, December 03, 2011

I just read about this buck. It had become somewhat of a local celebrity, having been spotted numerous times near Walmart in Carrol County, IA.  Rumor has it that there had been some arrests made of poachers trying to kill it.  It had been seen often in a field within 1/2 mile from the store, and several cars would park by the road to watch it.

Story I got was that it was killed this morning, legally, by the landowners son during the IA gun season.  It was green scored around 231” NT.

Classy photo of world class animal in the scoop of a tractor! At least give me a pick up bed shot.  Great buck deserves better pictures.  Cool live shots.

Personally I think this is a great picture I am a fan of the redneck pickup bed photo but this one is in a whole other ballpark nice job my friend. As for all you righteous deer hunters this is why I’m glad I’m a duck hunter. If he wants to put a pink tutu on it and throw it in a shopping cart by all means its his deer not yours get over it. Quit telling people what to do with their trophies and go get your own then you can sit in your backyard go get all your gear back on and sit there while your wife snaps photo after photo and tells the both of you how adorable you are. tongue wink

I’d take it easy on the pic.  The buck was killed just a few hours ago, and I’d bet this pic was just snapped by a passer-by and sent on 100 times.  The kid seems happy, and fortunately it sounds like the buck was taken legally instead of being poached by any of the thousands of people who knew about it.

I was able to find a better field photo…

If it’s the landowner’s son who shot it, they probably took the tractor out to retrieve it.  With all the rain overnight last night and this morning, fields would be a muddy, slimy mess and the tractor was probably the best option for retrieval.  And once collected, they probably brought it back to the house in the bucket.  At least he collected his kill, and not just the head like the photo in Marc Anthony’s post “The Sade Side of Hunting.”

Great buck !!
From where the top pic was taken from, my guess is that it was taken in the bucket of a skid steer & it was probably taken by the guy who was driving the bobcat, as he was exiting the cab. Probably just a cell phone pic too.
I think that pic is just fine & as Kevin has proved, he did take some quality kill pics too. Looks to me like this young man did a great job !

I used my brother-in-laws kubota tractor, with a buck, to load a 250lbs live weight deer, last month, all by myself in a matter of about a minute. No lifting at all require, just a short 5ft drag into the bucket. It is a really great, easy & safe way to load a big buck or any deer. Then you can take it anywhere you want to field dress it,to take pics of it, hang it,  whatever.
