Chris Kiernan’s 37-pointer

Chris Kiernan buck

Bowhunter Chris Kiernan of Morris shot this 37-point Kendall County buck on Nov. 1, 2009 after two years of hunting the buck.

Kiernan was reportedly very aware of the buck and had been hunting him for two years. Here is his account of the hunt for this monster.

The buck netted 268 1/8 inches when officially scored. That made it the largest non-typical bowkill in Illinois history and the third-largest non-typical of all-time for the Prairie State.

But a panel of scorers later measured Chris Kiernan’s non-typical at 261 5/8 inches. The score was considerably lower than the original measurement and dropped the buck to second among Illinois bowkills.

After that, Kiernan was charged with 40 counts of unlawfully taking deer. That case is still pending.
