Charles Turner shot this Rock Island County 14-pointer on Nov. 5, 2009 just 11 minutes after leaving his truck. The time was 12:10 p.m. and the temperature was a balmy 56 degrees.

Not ideal conditions?

Hardly. The big buck was checking a scrape line came right to Turner as he was walking in to hunt.

He shot the buck at 20 yards while standing in plain view in a cut bean field.

“I can’t believe he didn’t bolt from the sound of my knees banging together,” Turner wrote.

He was hunting with a Bowtech Extreme VFT and Montec G5 broadheads.

The buck green-scored 202 4/8 (rough score) and had 14 scorable points and was estimated to have weighed 250 pounds alive.
