Seems like there’s less traffic to the site than what used to be. Hell I used to check the website each day, now maybe once every couple weeks? Seems like the site is mostly deer related, which is fine, but I don’t really deer hunt anymore so I don’t have much need to check in. Hope you have a good season, I’ll be waiting till the 22nd but I’m ready none the less.

Youth hunters killed some pintail and teal with few wood ducks Sat in Calhoun county. Poor weather made for short day of action , but there are good numbers of early season ducks.

Sounds like a few nice hunts out there!  I only hunted Saturday and salvaged a slow morning of 2 ducks with a nice PM hunt of 5 honkers, one of which was banded.  Not a bad way to start the season!

We had a Good Hunt on Saturday. Saw some Wood Ducks, but very few Teal.
No Geese at all. I know there around and thought for sure might have a chance. I was wrong!

Berganser, we were right across the creek from you and we got a 5 man limit of geese, plus a woodie and pinnie.  We had lots of working geese.  Rob and I figured you were hammering the honkers.

Slow goin on opener. Managed one honkey. Didn’t see but maybe about 12 ducks all day if that. The guys in our other blind did ok with 9 ducks. I’m gonna get after it tomorrow morning and see if we’ve got any better luck.

I am definitely no expert, but I would say your buddy is probably right. In my opinion, calling at woodies does only one thing, gets there attention and lets them know there are birds (decoys) in your spread, but they don’t really work a call and decoy spread like other mallard or puddle ducks. The main thing with woodies is just being on be on the “X” where the birds want to be.
