I am going to be off work on Friday, Oct. 11th. Anyone have any thoughts on how Friday morning should be in Boone County for a little bow hunting? I was thinking about going to my new stand early and hunting it till 10-11ish. As always, a day in the stand certainly beats a day at work…

Need to get out and try an evening, just haven’t had a chance yet. Wrong wind direction and prior obligations have kept me from hunting my favored time, the evening. There’s a lot of standing corn on the property, so I’m guessing they’ve been hiding in there. Lotta deer on my cameras past two months, so I know they’re in there somewhere.

All hunts in southern fulton county. On a side note, I have gotten exactly 1 buck on camera for the entire last 2 months and thats it. Unusual for my location. Maybe has to do with corn?

It was a good sit, had a 6 pt under the stand having a staring contest with me for a few minutes. Believe it or not, 2 does came running behind me and right on their ass was a 6 pt grunting non-stop with a decent 8 pt behind all of them. The 8 pt wasn’t quite a shooter. Its a little early for the chasin, so this was probably a fluke.
October 12th
5:00 to dark
Scared a deer getting in to my stand that is along the edge of a 1/4 acre clover plot I put in a few years ago. Still going strong. Forgot my cell phone but Im guessing around 5:45 a yearling doe come in, and I decided what the heck, I want some meat. Shot it, first one down of the year, and feels good! 30 min later a 2 1/2 year old buck come by at about 70 yards between clover patch and standing corn field. By the way, when I dragged the doe out, that 2 1/2 year old buck was all ready putting out his scent! I couldn’t believe the smell he was giving off, I usually dont smell them like that till November. I think the rut might start sooner this year. Very good evening.
around mid 60’s temps
W-NW wind
10/13 hunted for two hours in McLean county and saw zero deer. 10/16 we went out for a couple of hours and saw a button head and a doe in Peoria county. Bumped the button head bedded down under the stand. He proceeded to come in and leave two more times. The doe snuck in and spotted us before we saw her. I was camera man last night and got some good button head footage at 5 yards.

Hunted midday on Wednesday10/16/13 10-2:30 saw nothing took a break went home and ate some lunch back in stand at 4 then smoked a really big doe right in the pump house at 5:30 pm. shot her at 43 yrds this is the longest shot I have taken with a bow but had plenty of time to get ready . I had been watching her for 30 minutes and could tell where she was going to come out in my pasture. I have been practicing a lot at this distance and there were no obstructions. Wind was in my favor. She is in the freezer
Knox county 10/17 4-630- found some rubs saw a small buck grunting and pestering a doe. Overall saw 2 small bucks and 4 does. Also saw 4 coyotes. 3 got away. Ha

10-19-13- evening hunt, saw 5 does, 3 yearlings, 1 big mature doe who knew something is up, Dang it! And a 2 year old doe. Unfortunately all got spooked off my winter wheat plot. Im going to have to change tactics for my stand as they have decided they like to come through and a new and unexpected place.
