First badger I saw was near a little Mason county town, Buzzville, in 1984.  Since that time, I’ve seen them in numerous locations in Illinois, including Warren and Rock Island counties.

Seems like over the years reports at or near I-64 has been the farthest north they have been consistently seen. The one north of I-72 that riverrat seen hopefully is a fluke.
We don’t need them in the state period. So destructive.

I have heard several stories of kids bringing road kill back from other states and dumping them along the road.

Wow. Going to another state to gather road kill and bringing it back? Those are some incredibly bored kids….however though…

They are not going to the state just to gather road kill, they are already on spring break, etc and bring them back along the way to prank people like you who notice them.  Google and you will find articles or news clips.

Ok Huntinghard…take it easy. I was not intending to insult anyone. I misinterpreted your post.

As it wasn’t too far from the Mississippi, it could always have been a hitch-hiker, on a barge.

Once in a while I’ll see one on the squirrel feeder when I get home on 2nd shift.  They’re about 1/2 the size of a grey squirrel

Have seen a few road kills: sounds like a few are in the same areas as others - but definitely appear to be more than just a fluke -  Have not seen a flying tree rat since my days at SIUE - pretty cool little critters!

Good point riverrat, I’ve got friends that work the barges and they’ve commented several times about them things getting on the boat.
Animals never cease to amaze me on how creative they can be.
