Just curious what everyone is anticipating for the upcoming 4 days of gun season. I’ll be doing some late season tweeks to the bow and washing my cold weather gear. Maybe a few cocktails and a steak.
Any predictions on deer numbers?

Going to go out in honor of my father. I will only shoot a mature buck. From the reports of my trail camera, I will be playing a lot of tidily winks and being duped by stupid squirrels imitating deer. No does or young bucks will be killed by me, but boy let a coyote come by and I will either ventilate him with a 1 oz slug or scare the crap out of him.

Thanks Mr. Freak . I would not be opposed to ventilating a monster too. But they are not around here like they were last year. Looks like tagzonia is on the menu this year. yum!.

OK, I’m REALLY going to go out on a limb here and predict that there will be FEWER deer killed in the second season than the first.

OK so nobody sounds too amped up to see many deer in the woods. Anyone have any decent apps on their smart phones they can recommend to view while they are sitting in the field? I like looking at “Solunar Times” for potential deer activity. They are predicting the deer will be active over the weekend… time will tell…

I do not gun gun hunt but talked to a few groups of guys who hunted 1st season. Out of 20 hunters 2 deer taken. Several said they were not going out 2nd season. We’re hurting for numbers here.

The weatherman is calling for 90% rain for Friday. The guys I hunt with were so dejected they left first season stating they were not going to hunt second season. I’ll guess around 30,000 for the second season.

I think jcurri has the best idea!
Maybe someone could write a fresh article for the home page. I think they all have writers block. Maybe just busy

Andy there really isn’t much to talk about with the deer numbers being down. I’ve noticed to that the site doesn’t have much chatter this year. Since 2007 the numbers have been declining to the point of no return. I love deer hunting as much as the next guy but if we want the numbers to jump back we don’t need self restraint we need no hunting period for a year if not 2. I’m willing to take off a year just to see what occurs. Also the permits would have to be reduced big time to keep the herd stable. It’s just my opinion but with unlimited permits the numbers will get worse! It’s EASY to see…

I agree muzzyman. A year or two with no hunting would do the deer herd a lot of good. I’d just go sit with my camera instead. That’s not much of a sacrifice for such a valuable resource. I myself have been shooting 1 deer per season for the last 4 years. It’s just as rewarding to watch them walk by knowing you’re in their living room undetected.
Thinking about focusing on some coyote hunting
