I just heard the dumbest thing ever while scrolling through the channels.  I paused on the Sportsman Channel to see what was on, and heard a promo for a hunting show.  Here’s a quote from their upcoming show…“I just speared my first Whitetail!”  I won’t even mention which show it was from.  Speared?  Really?  Maybe I should start throwing bricks at them to get my own show.

Nothing on those channels amazes me anymore.  I don’t even watch them.  They’ll be tackling or clubbing them next!

When I hear of someone spearing something I think of one guy.  Is it a local John?

Really?! you name them?. The worst is , I TOOK INVENTORY ON MY DEER ON MY FARM AND HAVE A HUGE HIT LIST OF SHOOTERS!!. Please , unless you have a 12 foot fence completely around your property THEY ARE NOT YOUR DEER! . As far as spear hunting that guy must be Relentless in his Pursuit . smile.

“Sportsman” Channel, huh?  Yet further reinforcing my decision not to have cable TV, very little worth watching anyway.  Seems I heard of a professional football player into this sort of thing at some “hunting ground” around West Central Illinois a few years back.  I’ve long believed that our fellow “sportsmen” are our own worst enemy as opposed to organized “antis.”  Simply more fuel for the fire, why would a network show such a thing.  Oh yeah, money.

I have seen Youtube videos of people using Atlatl to spear fish and deer…

I guess the traditionalist in me comes out when watching those kind of things…I know that there is better equipment to harvest an animal, but if everyone had this midset why would you ever consider taking a recurve or longbow to the woods when there are compounds?...

Matt and Knox, you would be correct in your assumptions.  They actually showed a quick clip of the spearing.  13, you are right on the money.  More fuel for the fire.  Should we even wonder why some people think we hunters are brutal murderers?

As far as the comparison to recurves goes, I think that’s a giant leap.  Can you imagine how much room there is for error when spearing a deer?

I can’t imagine this is even legal, so I assume it’s a high-fenced hunt.  Shocker!  What an absolute embarrassment to our hunting tradition and lifestyle.

All of these shows are garbage, I have seen them gut shoot deer then pump their fists celebrating a good shot.

All they are is an infomercial to sell all the various hunting gear that 95 percent of which is junk or not needed.

I’ve seen the same thing about the gut shots.  I actually saw one last night.  Terrible shot, fist pump, knuckle the cameraman…in that order.  I’ve gut shot deer too, but it’s never followed by a feeling of excitement.  The shot I saw last night was described as “a touch too far back, but we should be good.”  Three more inches back and it would have been a butt shot.

As far as the “Relentless” spearing of game.  I believe I saw a “Relentless” individual on TV doing this with buffalo at his family’s high fence lodge.  He just launched the spear into a packed up herd as they were running away.  I know its the way the Indians used to do it, but come on.

Hunting shows are 1/2 hour segments of time I miss actually hunting to watch 20 minutes of ads and 10 minutes of hunting…  SHAM!!! Plus most folks will NOT score a buck liike the TV shows guys do… They work for it, but having to do all that work to hunt would take the joy out of it for me.

He’s a joke. Doing this on his high fence farm south of Canton. I don’t waste my time watching him.

Im gonna make a suggestion!  How about we have wannabe hunting celeb death match fights on one of these outdoor channels?  I think Lesnar vs. Wells would be a good matchup!  No guns, Xrifles, or spears!  Just bare knuckle beat downs!  I’d watch that!  High fence of course so he feels right at home!  No refs, just a heart monitor!  Now that’s reality tv!
