If the time is right and the cabbage is ripe. I love to take a few heads, core them out, stick as much butter as possible in the void, salt and pepper; Wrap in aluminum foil and throw on the coals. Easy to do and delicious!!
It really depends on the type of camping trip.Primitive vs campgrounds or alone vs w/friends.I do most of my camping trips at primitive sites during the fall/early winter and mostly by myself,so it’s usually pretty simple items.A coffee percolator is a must, instant oatmeal to start the day.Sandwich and an apple for lunch.Dinner varies from fresh fish and spuds(foil wrapped) or re-heating a frozen boil proof bag of home made stew/soup in a pot of water.Of course there’s usually a bottle of Red Stag or Jameson to sooth the body after a day of hiking/fishin.
If it’s with friends/campgrounds,then I will try to get fancy with menu..
I always bring a bag of our home made venison jerkey. The best meal I ever had was when a buddy and I were hunting the Mark Twain National forest for turkey. Giant yellow morels and big crappie fillets fried on the Coleman stove. Of course a few adult beverages to wash the whole thing down. And, if we were lucky, fried turkey strips!
Agreed with the which kind of camping…I have done the live off the land primative camping as well as the “Hey, run up town and grab some more BEER would ya” camping!!!
I guess the main staples for me are simple MEAT and POTATOES!!! Whether it be wild game or fish harvested or brought from home…
Camping for me typically involves a large breakfast and I do mean large; eggs, bacon, toast, patatos. A long day of fishing most likely with a snack of some cashews during this period or venison sausage if available, Ahhh back at camp to some cold beer perhaps a ribeye or huge burger with lots of cheese, or a few brats along with some patatos baked sweet patato in the fire and more beer. Conversation well into the night with a friend or two by the fire. Maybe an asprin or two before bed and up at it early the next day to do it again. Part of camping is two good meals a day, fishing, adult beverage or two and fellowship. Wow I can’t wait to go!
