You have got no idea what you are talking about . In my living room are 8 mounts everywhere from 172 to 145 I’ve also got mounts in my dining room and a few in other rooms . I’ve been hunting pike county for 30 plus years and have forgotten more about killing big deer than you will ever even hope to know. Before you run your ignorant mouth you should do some research and be aware of what you speak . I’ve got a piece of advice for you , it’s best to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt . Now go ask your mom or dad to explain that to you .

MattG,

I have to admit you had me laughing with that one.  I am sure a world class hunter like yourself has more to do this afternoon than be my personal humor, I wish you well.  Lol.

Don’t worry about this joker that thinks he knows EVERYTHING about deer hunting, he tried telling everyone last fall that WE shouldn’t kill deer because there is a shortage???? MG is a idiot, hunting pike county is why, must be nice to see 50+ deer a day and go to seeing only a few, thats why he is all salty. Just ignore that idiot he doesn’t know anything obviously. Info and data proved him wrong but he thinks he’s still right? come on man you hunt one county out of 102? get out of here with this bs you keep throwing around

First off you ignorant asshat I have never said to not kill deer just show some restraint and respect . Your obviously from the if it’s brown its Down crowd which shows your not a hunter your a killer . Ignorant people like yourself are the reason our herd is in the shape its in . I also never said I hunt only one county . People like you that get on and go to insults and name calling are the lowest form of scum there is . I’m done with you as should everyone else that cares about our herd and leaving some for our kids and grandkids . True conservation isn’t about killing everything you see but leaving it better than you found it . Have a nice day .

The problem lies in the stats. Big Bucks. This antler craze has taken a toll on our herd. I like to eat venison as many of my fellow deer hunters do. Last Nov. I passed on a couple doe/yearlings that wandered in. I never fired because I felt the yearlings would not make the winter without mom. There was a giant at about 60 yds but the shot window was too short and and too small. No venison for the icebox. I went back in the spring and reviewed my decision on that shot and I was right. This antler craze has polluted a once great passion. Even shed collecting has become ridiculous. Guys hunting sheds by headlamp? Really…You don’t grill the antlers do you…Every deer hunter wants that giant buck…but I ask you this…Why are you really hunting?

Baba orreilly - great post . I’ve hunted for 30 years and killed my share of big deer . I went through all the phases of hunting from if it’s brown its down to being very selective of what I shoot including does . The best part of hunting to me now is taking my kids and grandkids out . I only hunt now for the experience of being out in the woods enjoying Mother Nature in all her glory . I have seen first hand the destruction brought onto our sport and herd from the antler craze. Too many hero tv shows and magazine whores selling junk to guarantee that booner hiding behind every tree . I guess my answer is I hunt for the hunt not the kill because it is usually the end of the hunt and I always hate to see it end .

Thank you Matt. I don’t want to come off as Mr Holier than thou hunter. I have no issue/problem with the harvest of trophy bucks provided that it is done within the boundaries of the game/fish codes. Yes the tv shows and magazines are a laugh especially to the veteran hunter who knows better. I have seen mediocre deer taken on these programs right here in Illinois and these guys act like they killed a swamp monster. Their post kill actions are silly. I have been hunting deer with the bow and gun for 30 yrs. I too went through all phases of it. I became obsessed with antlers for a few years and wound up with an empty freezer. I learned to quit pressing so hard for one thing and take what Mother Nature presents to you when the time is right.
