Awhile back I posted on this subject and had a ton of comments.  Most were great and we had a great debate on this subject.  Today I went and purchased another E/S tag for another county that I’m going to hunt this year for the first time.  There were several hunters in line waiting.  The reason we were waiting is a guy was purchasing 15 E/S tags for 15 different counties.  WOW!!!!  REALLY!!  Now for one who has that many different hunting spots let alone the time to jump around.  If you hunt all gun seasons it’s ten days.  Just another problem with the permit system.  Comments??

Muzzy,

Is it possible that some people have more time and money than you?

If you see something illegal, by all means turn them in.

Would assume he has a deal going where he is selling them to non residents. I would be suspicious he works for someone like PETA trying to buy up the tags, but know that makes no sense because there is no tag limit or bag limit on deer.

You would think the number of tags being bought would throw a red flag to dnr.

Apparently they are allowing people to purchase tags for other people as long as you have a phone picture of their license. My brother in law watched someone buy tags for seven other people before him yesterday. Sounds absurd to me, but that’s why I filled it out online in April.

When OTC tags went on sale yesterday there were 58,585 ES tags still left to purchase for all counties.  That’s $1,464,625 in revenue just for ES tags.  This didn’t include the anterless tags left or muzzleloader ES or anterless.  BIG BUSINESS!!!!

The latest trend has shown that hunters are buying more permits over-the-counter (OTC).  Why not?  When you have so many tags available and can pick them up at Walmart, why waste the time filling out the early application and waiting for them to be mailed?  Does anyone ever get refused for a permit?

There were a grand total of 155,485 E/S permits available for sale according to IDNR.  So… about 38% of the E/S permits were still available to purchase after all lotteries.

It does seem like more people are buying them over the counter, but I don’t see why because I hate waiting in line. Some people waited in line a couple hours Tuesday but the system failed and everyone had to come back Wednesday. It also used to be difficult to get Either Sex tags when buying OTC in my county, but nobody I talked to had any issues getting one this year.

I think you should only be able to get one tag. But that tag should be good for any county.

I believe the counter sales increased this year because there were no random daily draw in September.  And yes they do turn down permit sales. I attempted to pick up an E/S last season for a different county that I picked up property in. They said quota was full and I didn’t get a tag.

15 tags?  That’s just stupid.

15 tags seems a more than a bit excessive.  There are numerous places where, if you were lucky enough to get permission, you could hunt at the juncture of 3-4 counties from one stand.  Although it’s HIGHLY UNLIKELY that one individual just happened to luck out and have 4-5 places, all right at the junction of 3-4 counties, I’d sure want to be prepared.

Unlimited tags are “killing” your herd is what I say as a NR. DNR needs to wake up, stop politocising your herd, or it will continue to go down in size.
