Monday morning 11/4/13 wind SE.  dark till 10:00 am saw doe and yearling exiting cron field. Monday Evening same spot saw nice 8pt entering cornfield had doe estrus in front of me, blew doe bleat with hot ma ma call waited then blew breading call with same call waited 5 minutes here he comes stops behind a tree I am pullled back waiting, waiting, waiting, should had let off but did not. Finally he’s out in front I shoot he ducks and hit him to F****** high.  Saw where he ran It’s getting dark now, get down to find arrow no blood. Wait another hour it’s dark find arrow 20 yrds, blood on fleching, lil blood on corn where he ran then no blood at all. Look for blood for 2 hrs nothing. Get back up Tuesday go out to look It’s raining. I don’t care I am still looking, looked till noon nothing.  I hate that, but I don’t think I killed him or I’d like to think that. Got back in another stand at 1 hunted rest of day saw 0 deer. how in the hell do I kill a doe at 43 yrds and miss a shot on a buck at 25, sick about it but know it happens, from now on I start at the bottom of target and go up, not up then down. Should have let off then repulled but was scared he’d bust me.

Bow hunted the last 6 out of 8 days.  Seen about 35 deer including 4 shooters.  The rut is definitely on in my neck of the woods.  The only shooter I had within range was a nice 10 pt at about 15 yds in front of me.  I sat until 11:10am that morning and decided to pick up, so I turned around in my stand packing up and i hear something behind me.  I turn around and standing perfectly broadside is a shooter.  As soon as i turned, he spooked and ran off.  Not bow hunting today or Saturday (duck hunting) back at it Sun/Mon.

I bow hunted the past seven days (morning and night) in Calhoun.  Bucks are definately chasing does and responding to grunt calls.  Saw most activity on Thursday which happens to be the day after the cold front moved thru.  Need cold weather to return and stay a while to get the rut really going.

Saturday 11/9
Hunted all day with nothing but a fork horn running around.  Neighbor still has standing corn.  Deer disappeared the day our corn got cut.  Hopefully everything gets cut soon.

Was off Nov.1-11. Hunted everyday pretty much every morning evening minus two mornings. Hunted Grundy, Will, and Kankakee Counties. Saw many deer and had some close encounters with a few nice shooters. Started witnessing chasing around Nov. 7 with the best day by far being the morning of Nov. 9th. Rattled in a big non-typical that morning who never gave me a shot. Also, had a HUGE 10 pointer come in chasing a doe but was just out of range. In the end, it was Nov. 10th I ended up grunting in and sticking a decent 3.5 year old 10 point that evening. Got him all chopped up and in the freezer today. Get back on the deer ASAP, it’s definitely on right now!

Hunted dark till dark all day 3 different stands wind ssw5-10 called in one lil 4 pter twice hope he got educated and gets bigger because I had him at 10 yrds broadside, let him walk. The sea of standing corn got taken down today, I guess this weekends wheather forecast was to much for them and they decided they would rather harvest it while it’s still standing. Very slow day. disappointed on trail cam pics. I think Illinois is in trouble because 5 yrs ago I would have had at least 3 pics of booners by now. None so far, I’ve had my cameras out since August 1.

11/16 Morning.  Little breezy with front coming in.  Nothing moving at all.  Sat in a spot that I can see forever and not a thing.  Barely made it back to truck before rain hit hard.

Same here Matt, Saturday was slow with a lot of wind.  I saw 4 does, but no bucks.  Overall, the weather has really been terrible on the days I have been able to bow hunt.  This Friday looks like pretty good deer hunting weather and its time to bust out the big guns.  Maybe I will get a chance at something mature and get something in my empty freezer.

Public Land…..3 of us hunted Oct 31 till Nov 9th. Saw deer sporadically, when cold fronts came through, bucks were moving. Saw plenty young deer, mostly bucks. We didn’t see a lot of nice bucks, probably in the 10-12 number. Saw very few does. We saw only 1 coyote. Had plenty within 20 yds, could have filled all tags, but waiting on “da big one”! hehe. We did take 4 home, 2 nice bucks. About the 7th, it was on, they were chasing.
