Finally starting to see some sign with scrapes and rubs popping up everywhere now. Getting some daylight pics of bucks too. Couldn’t hunt this week but looking forward to next weekend. My property had been dead up until the 14th.

October 20th
3pm til dark
Calhoun County
Had a doe and her little one come from downwind at 4pm.  She got about 40 yards and then must of smelled me.  She slowly walked back the way she came.  Out of all the does I have seen this year, they only have one fawn.  Most years, the does have 2 fawns and a few have triplets.  I wonder if the drought from last year had any effects on their reproduction?  I’m getting a fair amount of deer on cameras but they are almost all young does with a single fawn.  I did see some fresh scrapes starting to pop up so hopefully the deer will become more active.

4:00p.m.-Dark
Kankakee County-Kicked up 5 doe/fawns heading to the stand. Didn’t see anything else until about 20 minutes before dark a HUGE buck came out into the cut corn. Was working my way until he got about 60-70 yards and winded me. Possibly the biggest buck (body and rack) I have ever seen in my life. No idea on the score cuz I’m terrible at that and don’t want to throw out a shotty guess but he would have been on going on the wall for sure!

Dawn-9:00a.m.
Same stand as night before-Deer on the field at first light. Doe and fawn being chased around by a small 6 pointer. Ended up passing the doe and fawn at 30 yards around 7:30. The buck had gone elsewhere by this time.

Grundy County-7 point basket came in licking the air around 9:00 a.m. Passed up a 5 yard broadside shot, he continued on with his nose to the ground. Headed from the woods to standing corn. Had some buck bomb sprayed out and he came in down wind, also had done some light rattling ten min before, but guessing he came into the scent by the way he was acting, as stated in the rut report thread

10/31 Looking for a monster buck on Halloween, but no luck.  Saw a nice buck checking a scrape when I walked in at 4:15 pm (tried waiting for rain to stop).  I sat in fence row waiting for him to work his way out of the field so I could get to my stand without spooking him.  There were also does feeding in the field behind me when I got into the stand.  Saw that 1 nice buck and 6 does/fawns as a total.  Heading back out Saturday morning.

11/4 evening 2:30pm till dark.  Saw 4 does/fawns and 2 shooter bucks.  The first buck was walking alone across a cornfield at 3pm.  The 2nd buck was pushing a doe hard.

11/5 sunrise till 11:10am.  Saw 5 bucks and 3 does.  One big buck chasing a doe, basically sprinting through the timber and across a pasture.  I was turned around in my stand packing up to get down at 11:10am and turned back around and there stands a nice 10 pt staring right at me in a perfect broadside shooting late, busted!!  He then took off, not a good way to end a fun hunt.  Oh well, he wasn’t a monster, but a definite shooter.
