Without starting WW3.  I seen that Illinois had a record soybean / corn harvest. Would that mean less nuisance permits issued?.  Less permits in general since there was a record harvest. Or does big Insurance control that to.

I would hope to see no nuisance permits. But because enough is never enough probably ought to increase permits and doze out a few more fence rows so there is more product and crop prices will fall even more , then next year to make the same amount of money we can increase permits and doze out a few more fence rows etc. etc. etc.

might have been record harvest numbers, but not so in the price - certainly no record profits

4 more days and they are safe. Well at least from ethical hunters. The poachers and buick grills are still a threat. I hope the changing of the guard in Illinois will take away late season throughout the State/ make a 2 deer limit per season/ and do away nuisance permits. That would be a good start.

Well said BIGPOND. Just because the grain is there, doesnt mean the profit is. This years harvest may have set a record, but input costs are the real record setter

Nuisance permits should have never been given out to start with. Wildlife eating the crops is a part of farming, always has been and always will be. There are better ways to deal with it other than kill everything

The only nuisance permits that I know of in our area are the ones held by the public land hunters. I wish they would again close this nearby place and give our fawn factory back!

I see no need for nuisance permits.  Just another way the IDNR is killing off more deer

Right on knox.  This isn’t that difficult.  Your management plan is easy, do it and have a kick ass herd in about 3 years.

I am all for what you say Knox but I do not believe these changes will have much effect on our local numbers. When they opened the deers safe haven for hunting here it had a dramatic effect and under these conditions there will be no major rebound for us. The DNR knew exactly what to do to reduce numbers and it worked big time and will remain this way as long as it stays open. Under these circumstances this is our new normal. I hope the changes you speak of helps your area.
