Don’t see these very often.  First time for me.

A customer brought this in tonight.  He went up to North Dakota to a farm to get a buffalo to fill his freezer.  I guess this was a little one.  Only 1000 lbs compared to a full grown 2500 beast.

Very cool. Matt can you walk us through the sequence of the photos? First has dark horns, then pinkish then finally sawed off… Would be interesting.

The first pic was how I got it.  On all horned animals such as buffalo, cow, goats and so on, there are two parts of the horn.  Pretty much the inside and outside.  The inside core is bone that supports the outside sheath. The sheath is pretty much like your fingernail.  The sheath needs to be removed and cleaned.  Also the bugs will eat it.  I cut the tips off the core so it allows the bugs to get in and out easier it also makes it easier to clean after the bugs are done.

Not much stink.  Its been froze for a while and dried out.

Where that gun shot hole is, the bone is all broke up.  I haven’t checked on it in a couple days, but I expect that side of the head to be laying in pieces when the bugs are done.
