If you have a 220, why don’t you want to use it?  Some of them are tempermental.  But if you find the slug your gun likes, then it’s easily a 150yd gun.

I bought a browning A-bolt 12ga the first go around when browning offered them in the late nineties.  They reintroduced them a couple years ago.  Hands down, the best firearm purchase I have ever made.  Hard to beat bolt action slug guns; i’d work on trying to find a load for your savage.

Several years back I scaled down from a 12 gauge to a 20. All the ballistics info I read had 20 gauge slugs rated right along with 12 gauge. Its a Remington Express that I bought back in the 90s and rarely fired. I found a rifled barrel for a steal of a price and made it my deer gun. With open sights its accurate at 75 yds shooting Rem premier copper solids, they are costly ammo but they shot the best of several brands. It has all the knockdown of the 12 gauge and is light, compact and easy to carry.

I’ve always enjoyed handguns so, I hunt whitetails with my S&W 629 Classic since Illionois NOW allows it.

I was given a S&W 629 8 3/8” barrel all stainless for my high school graduation back in 1991.  Used if during the handgun only season the state used to offer.  It was topped with a burris scope.  Its certainly a challenge.  I shot a doe one year at 75 yards, one of the best shots I have ever made with a firearm.

Mine is a 6&1/2” and wears a Ultra Dot sight of 30mm in a Weigand mount and rings.
