I really, really, doubt if this web site was going back then. But can you imagine when they started to allow muzzle loaders and handguns the comments that would have been made. Or back in the day when so few shotgun permits were allowed that usually you got them every other year. How many would complain if they started that again. It’s funny, I try to look at things from every angle and not jump to conclusions, i do at times because I am not perfect. But I don’t call people idiots bacause they don’t think my way and ask any of my long time friends a pacifist I am not. Born crazy just getting older. Oh I crappie fish with minnows, love using plastics bass fishing, and use stink bait for catfish.

berlin, you are a cheating hack of an outdoorsman!  KIDDING!!!  HAHAHAHAHA!

Good points though.  I agree.  Though, in my youth I would have argued fervently for the methods I chose and lambasted those opposed or open to “easier” ways.

So, I hope with age comes wisdom and open mindedness…and less selfishness.  I realized that all the ducks and deer weren’t just mine to kill, and it was OK for others to have success.  :D

Okay, here I am again just reading and not posting… I never hunted before there were deer in my county… I remember deer yarding up in places when I was young that they don’t do now… I know people that shoot 10 deer a year and never eat one… I think crossbows have there place for the right person… I think that if the state keeps allowing endless anterless permits ou herd will eventually suffer… I think I am a better hunter than some… I hope my boys have the chances I have had on harvesting a deer… I think I have a couple of good places to hunt… I also know that I could lose them both tomorrow… I HATE the drama that goes with GUN hunting (still there with bow just not as bad)... I hope to someday own some ground that I can OWN and control… I also want to blame Obama just for fun…

Honestly, yes crossbows are going to put more people in the field later in the season.. Is it going to hurt me in my area, probably not…

ODL247-I heard of a retired fireman in this area several years ago that was going out and shooting 15-20 deer a year. He was having other people that wanted deer meat buy his tags (archery) then he would turn the deer over to them. I have no idea if this is still happening, I know this did and still does get a lot of people fired up. But if he was buying the tags himself and donating the meat does that really make it more right? I just don’t think people should be allowed to kill that many deer in a season. A person should be allowed to shoot so many deer in a season, no matter the sex or what they hunt with. Now I know I will catch it on this statement. So many hunters put out food plots, most say it’s to help the deer herd but most is to also draw deer into where they hunt. Most say that they don’t hunt over the food plots but if you hunt the trails leading to them what is the difference. My point of this is, are more deer being shot because of food plots, so is this much different that allowing another type of weapon to kill deer. Am I against food plots, no, I think people should be allowed to do on their property want they want. But, if it was proved that more deer were killed bacause of them and that was the reason the number of deer are down in Illinois how many hunters would plow their’s under, or would they leave it to the next guy to plow his under because it doesn’t pertain to them.

Forgot to mention, we name our deer also…Not all of them, but some deserve to be named…I also think anyone that legally harvest one of them is deserving, be it me, one of the guys in our lease, or even a neighbor…

I can remember a couple of years back when a neighbor shot a deer we named G2…He was a gross 180” deer that several of us had been seeing…Had the deer inside 30 yards several times but could never close the deal…A friend of mine that hunts a neighbor property shot him…He was in the same boat, he shot at him the year before and missed…I was very happy for him getting the second chance and making it happen…

I am not real happy with myself over some of my statements I have made. I do fully understand we each have an opinion and are allowed to think as we choose. As I too have aged although not an old man yet am not a youngin either I have realized that maturity comes to most with age although there is an exception or two. I would not try to force anyone to believe as I believe and I do try to understand others perspectives most of the time. There are times it is extremely difficult to understand some as hard as I try and that is ok to as it’s not necessary that we all think alike, but would think we can all respect one another. Someone wants to name deer I have no issue with that. I have a common name for deer I choose to name and that is dinner. When I fish if at all possible I will catch without using live bait. Just a prefernce for me. I will confess when teaching my children of course the ole standbye worms is where we start often under a cork catching gills. When I deer hunt I use a compound. Now that xbows are available I don’t feel the need to rush out and buy one at the same time if someone chooses to do so I have no issue with that. If someone hunts for bear over garbage where legal and enjoys that more power to them, not my thing however. Someone plants food plots and kills deer over them where legal more power to them. Berlin you sure have asked some very interesting questions I might add. and have helped my perspective. 247 it is nice to see a bow hunter that can be happy for a neighbor that shot a deer you would have loved to shoot yourself! OZ love the humor you have added and again Galenabob sorry for highjacking your thread.

One thing I really enjoy about this site is that you get to read so many different thoughts, usually you just talk to people in your general area, here you get the thoughts and comments from people all over the state and how one thing may not effect you but on someone else it’s a major impact. And who knows by this time next year I may be as hard core against xbows as Andy is, but I just am not rushing to that right now. But I will respect his thoughts and comments, he does make some very valid points or for that matter anyone that is against it. None of us are perfect and none of us can walk on water, But boy oh boy I have floated some dandy logs in my day!!
