I think all the interesting parts may be over.  There are very few of these shows worth watching most of them show bad information and worse yet bad ethics I often use them as teaching tools to show my kids what not to do.

I have no idea the show or person who is being talked about nor do I care… The only time I get the sportsman or outdoor channels are when they are on free preview….

I was just mentioning in my previous post that many of us shoot traditional archery, which to some seems stupid… A good friend of mine rips on me everytime I pull it out of the Jeep…  I am confident that when I have the time to PRACTICE I am a very good shot…  So yes, I was defending this person to an extent…

I also believe that there are people that should not be in the woods with any weapon… Some peoples ethics go clean out the windon the minute they step in the woods if they have any to begin with…

I think Missouri just opened an atlatl season, and a few people have already taken deer with one.

I was at a meeting in Springfield at DNR last week and was told that Chief AJ (Google him if you don’t know who he is) is trying to get legislation passed in IL to make his arrow-flinging slingshot legal for deer hunting in IL.

I dont watch hardly any of the shows except for gamekeepers, deer and deer hunting or other management related shows.

The most ridiculous thing i did see was these two clowns hunting in Canada maybe, dont remember but they had these hats on that looked like cartoon deer heads.  I could not believe what the heck i was seeing.

Someone earlier hit the nail on the head, the hunting shows are no more than an infomercial for the gear and/or outfitter being used.  The ones tha get my goat are the holierthanthou fellas that pimp themselves as some great hunter and their techniques are best (so buy their books and videos).

The reality?  They are successful based on the same luck and equipment types you and I use, but it’s enhanced by privileged access to well managed properties upon which they and or the outfitter spend their working day improving and running camera and hanging stands…they have the ability to live it as they are paid to do it.  Something you and I don’t really have unless we neglect other responsibilities in our lives…

The comment on naming them gave me a chuckle though.  I have to admit guilt to doing the same.  NOT because I think I own the deer or only I have the ability or right to kill it…more because the thing shows up on my cameras allot and looks like a deer I would shoot if lucky enough to be I the same 40 yard circle as him some day.  And, I find it fun to take a deer I have pictures of…especially if I have pictures over a few years.  How can you not name it so you and your buddies know the exact deer you saw at 100 yards on a certain day?

I think it is good to point out that commercial hunting shows are not reality based to what us average joes are able to do in allot of cases.  BUT, we have to be careful what and how we ridecule these celeb hunters as the ridecule could be turned against us.  We aren’t all that different… smile

I seen one show where the guy shot the deer in the flippen butt!. He said its okay it probably hit a major vessel and he should bleed out. Fist pump , fist bump the camera guy. OMG! how embarrissing. everyone on here saying its about product is correct. Its not about the hunt its about the clothes, the scents, the equipment..blah blah blah. The smoking of a 42 point non-typical shooter named narles barkley is just a carrot dangling for us to keep us interested until the infomercials start:)

I would not (intentionally) take that shot, but I have seen it 3 times (two accidental and 1 intentional) and all three deer died inside of 50 yards.

The “Texas Heart Shot” is lethal!

I’m going out this afternoon to hunt on horseback.  I plan on hiding in the edge of the timber, waiting for a pack of deer to come out into the alfalfa, and running one down…dropping in on him for some good ol’ deer-westlin’.  Wish me luck.  Tomorrow….team roping.

I’m also constructing a vine system throughout my timber so I can get around Tarzan-style.  No more scent on the ground.  I may even get me a chimp as a sidekick.
