does anyone plan on saving the tundra this spring? (snow goosin) where do you hunt? decoy spreads used, shotgun loads, and harvest reports. i plan on snow goose hunting in the havana area this spring with an outfitter a couple times. there are a ton of snows poised to hit central illinopis in the next few weeks. reports are thyre in southern illinois. if and when it warms up theyll be there. i heard theyre starting to go hungry ,so they will have no choice to head north. lots of corn and bean fields with little or nbo snow. ive hunted them from nodak to katy prarie west of houston. ive never seen so many snows as there are now in central illinois. tje fsct of no plugs,no limitd amd electromic calls only adds to the fun. ive seen electronic calls in action, awsum how they work the only thing is, you cant shoot lead> LOL i dont think you could even find 3in lead bb’s with out spendig $2.00 a round. my steel bb’s work fine . lets get out there and save the tundra
i am hunting with the Hamm guys yes ,its a steep price. i shot 40 the first time then a few days later, 150 8 guns its still worth the price of admission. if a waterfowler, save the money and go at least once. he hunts over 10k in full body decoys lots of $$ output. its the most fun one could have with your clothes on
last year i took the snow goose breasts and made sausage. mixed with pork, seasoned and put into slim jim sized casings. it was great. actually ,snow goose imho is better than canada goose ill give the recipe to anyone who wants it.. my friend, mauro who shoots lots of canadas’ in northern illinois makes sausage with canada goose breasts and its good also
CC, It was the sons first year hunting waterfowl and he is addicted now:)Thats all he is talking is snow geese so afew buddies are going to make sure he has a sore shoulder and gets on some birds…....lol
What part of the state are you hunting the snows in freak? My buddies and I thought about giving hamm a try, but $300/gun is a little rich for our blood. We never used to see any snows at all in NW IL, but the last 3 or 4 years we see just a few singles mixed in with the specks that come back through in the spring. 2 years ago, I got lucky/ballsy and scraped one out of a flock of specks (obviously if I am excited about one, we don’t see many, haha. We also see very very few specks and zero snows in the fall.
gonna hunt near havana monday am w/ hamm boys. either feast or famine. reports are theyre close to havana. got lots of bullets to shoot praying we’ll use them all LOL
as we all know what the weather was yesterday in northern illinois. we went thru the efforts did not go out. no gees there yet. in a few days central illinois should have lots and lots. gonna give it hell in 11 days
