I walked for about 3 hours yesterday on some public land. I didn’t find any sheds. My trip racked up 8 deer sightings (1 forky w/ both sides), 1 coyote, 2 Pheasants, 1 Covey of quail, 100Ks of geese and a turtle shell. I don’t want to look in my good places yet because I’m afraid to push the antlers out of the area. I do know some guys are starting to find them. We still have bucks walking thru the yard with both antlers.
I went out to check trail cams Saturday and found my biggest set of sheds ever. 17 scorable points. I’m going to be antsy waiting for next season. Good luck
Backwoods- I will post a pic tonight when I get home from work. If you look back at the forums there is a trail cam pic of the buck. I couldn’t believe that he dropped them. They were 15 yards apart in a food plot. Still some blood and hair on the pedicle so he must have just dropped them. I was jacked!
Nice find jcurri! Went out for two hours Sunday. Found a dead deer, not much left of him and no sheds, anywhere. Will try it again this weekend. Hopefully for a little longer if the temps are up, I have some other areas I would like to check.
Well i have the opposite of Jcurri’s find that gives him great incentive to be excited for the 2012 rut. This is the 2nd 10pt buck i have found within 150 yds of my primary tree stand. Pretty depressing.
Just out of curiosity, can anyone on here give me any idea what their opinion is on how long this deer has been dead? The body was completely eaten, stripped clean of all mean. The head still had some recognition of a deer face with jaw attached.
I dont really know for sure what killed them, the typical suspects i guess. I really think the one i found in November real close to my stand was coming from the direction of a road so probably hit by a car, or a potential poacher, but doubt it. The one i found yesterday is hard to tell. I am guessing it came wounded by a hunting injury from a nearby property, but all of the bones seem in tact and not shot up, so who know. All i know is it sucks.
