We knocked down 2 honkers near Braidwood this weekend.  It was busy from sun up until 730am…just great to be out on the water again!

We got shutout on geese. Saw a fair number but couldn’t get them to commit. I should have dove hunted with my dad, his group had limits in about 10 min. We weren’t in a great teal spot while goose hunting. We did see a few, but I’ve heard there are lots around and we will find them Saturday. The wood ducks were as thick as I ever remember. Hopefully too many don’t get educated or even accidentally shot by some of the dummies out and about.

Went out goose hunting three times this week and didn’t fire a shot. We were on public ground over water. I’ve seen 1 bluewing so far…not exactly what I was hoping to see. IDNR survey shows 20k+ teal in the river valley right now. I think they’re counting wood ducks.

Maybe we designate what half of the state we are hunting…I hunt just outside of Chicago, public land over water, and we saw good activity early but it was mostly local geese and zero teal.

It’s pretty obvious what part of the state I usually hunt, haha, although I do head south in the state when I am lucky enough to do so. This is the farthest I have been into September without killing some type of bird. I hope that all changes tomorrow! If I can hit a blue winged zinger??

Hunted teal in Saturday and managed 5, and shot a limit of doves Sunday pm. Great practice of shotgunning skills on the quickest birds around!

Glad you had batter luck that I’ve had! In 4 trips I still haven’t fired a shot. My buddy went 3 times this weekend and had the same result. I haven’t really seen much in the way of teal in the central zone so far…going out this evening to do a little scouting though. I did see the DNR plane doing surveys again it looked like. I’ll be curious as to what they look like. I suspect things are going to pick up after this mid 90’s business is over with.
