The 2013 waterfowl season officially starts in less than 24 hours!! Its a bit hard to get excited with the hot temps right now, but we are going to chase some geese tomorrow.  As the season progresses, post some updates here so we can share what is working to get some birds in the blind.

I got out on public ground yesterday morning bright and early and ended up hunting until 9:30 and didn’t fire a shot. Saw 5 groups of geese early in the morning that had over a dozen birds in the flock. They weren’t interested in much of anything. I heard a few shots but not many. Going to try again this week.

Holy smokes, opening day for regular waterfowl season opens in less than 2 day!!  WOOOHOOO!!!!  In the North zone that is!  The forecast looks perfect, fairly windy, partly cloudy, come on greenheads!

Good luck and have a safe hunt this weekend! I’ve got to wait until the 26th to get out. I’ve got a permit for Duck Ranch and I can’t wait. Let us know how you do up north!

Well that was a weird opening day…after seeing a lot of birds for the last few weeks at the spot we have been hunting opening day for the last 15 years, we sucked today!  Ending up with 2 ducks total, 1 BW teal and a spoonbill (which doesn’t even count).  We also lost a mallard that we didn’t put a good shot on.  Like I said, been hunting this spot on opening day for 15 years, and I don’t think we have ever shot less than 15 ducks on opening day.  We just didn’t see hardly any big ducks.  Saw a bunch of wood ducks, but they were sticking to the backwaters while we were hunting open water.  Oh well, still a fun day in the blind with my Dad and friends.

Anyone out there whacking some birds?  Its been a heck of a slow season form me, although I haven’t got out much.  Hard to split time in the tree and time in the duck blind.  I was lucky enough to shoot a few canvasbacks in the last couple days.  Pretty cool, since they were the first cans I have ever shot, just never did too much diver hunting.  Beautiful birds though.
