You know WTF that is something I never got geared up to do. Guys I know have done it, watched it on TV, I can catch plenty of fish on hook and line. It’s not so much critters biting me as much as a big ole snapper chomping down on my hand. I set out turtle lines around here and catch snappers and see what they can do, and that is one thing I don’t want my fingures close too.

I have watched some guys do it on McKee Creek in Brown Co. Personally haven’t tried it because I am not a big fan of snakes, etc.

It is illegal in some states/ lakes.  I read a while back where there was a big crackdown up at Mark Twain on this.  I guess people put structure for the cats to hide in (like we do for Crappie smile  ).

Well i guess the biologists feel once the female is disturbed from a nest dhe doesn’t come back or whatever.  So they went in and tore out all the man made structures when the lake was low and a I guess a few arrests were made.

be sure to check the laws.

But, my son has tried a few times with no luck.  Dag-gone kid ain’t skeered to put his arm up in there.  Fear comes when you get old I reckon.

Just 1 tip, the hole in which you are going to reach in should have a smooth entry way on bottom. If it is not smooth not sure I would stick my hand in there… The fish often drag their belly entering these tight spots or entry ways don’t want to feel as if the feet of a turtle, muskrat or any other creature is clawing to enter….lol good luck

I am dying to try this, but I could be more in love with the idea of it than actually doing it. Definitely have reservations about sticking my hand in an underwater murky hole…. Its just one of those things that your instincts tell you not to do..kinda like touching a hot stove…. But no risk no reward…it seems that the biggest cats are caught that way..ive been cat fishing for years and my personal best is a 27lb blue from powerton. The guys who noodle seem to pull out 30+ pound cats all the time…but that could be more location than anything…Oklahoma, Texas etc… I do think its neat where there will be really shallow water due to a river drying up in the middle of summer and in that tiny pool is a 30lb flat head… Maybe i will get a pair of kevlar gloves and try it!
