I’ve never been fishing at Powerton Lake and have been thinking about doing some bank fishing for catfish there.  What’s the best place to go from the parking lot there?  Best bait?  Is there a certain spot or just anywhere is relatively good?

Check this article out bud….www.catfish1.com/forums/showthread.php?146741-For-those-who-often-fish-Powerton-lake.    I know a lot of the big flatheads come from Powertons Discharge area! Good Luck let me know how you do….I’ve always wanted to fish there but never have!

You should try Hoss’s Hawg Bait, it works the best.  Bass Pro carries it as well as Presley’s and the bait shop over in Pekin.

News briefs says the lake will be closed for public access from 16-18 June.

Evidently you don’t know how to use the bait, or you don’t know how to fish.  Bait works just fine.

Mossyoak….they catch most of their fish on cut bait….if fishing for flatheads they use live bluegills!!

Uhhhh I’m not sure….I know they catch em on shad guts so Idk why they wouldn’t bite chicken liver!! Not sure if it was in this article or another one but when your walkin back towards the discharge there’s a fence that runs down to the water and people catch a lot of big blues there….idk how the fish survive in that lake they say it gets up to 120 degrees in the summer!!

If dip bait is the choice, Sonny’s outperforms others IMO. By far no comparison.
