Like me, I am sure a lot of you will be out sighting in your deer guns this weekend.  With the advancement of deer shotguns, handguns, muzzleloaders and ammo, what kind of ranges are you zeroing in at?  What would your comfortable range be?

Personally I like pistols and will have two on me while hunting.  I have used a .357 for the last 5 years and loved shooting it.  I would take a 100 yard shot no problem with the right conditions.  This year my primary gun will be a 45-70 Contender.  This one will be zeroed at 100 yards and I will practice up to 200 yards.  The .357 will still be on my side in case I need a quick close follow up shot if needed.

I am shooting my hornady SST’s out of my browning gold with a rifled slug barrell and scope.  I have shot 2 bucks with this combo, one at 100 yds and one at 70 yds.  I will verify I am still sighted in at 50, 100, and 150 yds.  I probably wont be sighting in this gun this weekend as i will be bowhunting fri-mon, but after that, i will sight it during the week after work.  I love bowhunting, but i cant wait to bust out the blaze orange and let it rip.

Heard a shot from the road in Knox County at about 8 this morning.  Right next to my property.  Not a chance this wasn’t someone poaching a deer.  If I could have climbed out of my stand and gotten to this clown’s truck in time, I certainly would have.  Man I hate poachers.  I let a small buck walk under me about 20 minutes before the shot and he walked right toward where the shot came from.  I let him go so that a poacher can shoot him from a truck.  We really need to crack down on these guys.  I am so freakin’ mad!

oh people don’t poach.  Its against the law so it couldn’t have been someone shooting a deer.  I am sure it was just a backfire or tire blow….....ya right!!  Did you go look for sign of something?

I looked a little, but I’m sure the casing ended up in the cab of the truck. I also found two carcasses thrown in a ditch in Peoria Cnty this morning.  Ticks me off.

I hunt where stark knox and peoria meet and i have heard several suspicious shots this year. The area has been prone to poaching in the past and it seems as if it still may be.  I don’t understand the mindset of these people and probably never will. The DNR needs less assistants to the director and more CPO’s.

Heard another “sighting in” shot right at dark in Knox tonight.  I hope a CO is looking at this thread.  If so, start driving around Knox Cnty in the Maquon area.  Catch one of these idiots and you’re my new hero.

Well then they’re doing it right in his backyard assuming he still lives there.  How did you videotape people?  How did they know they were being taped?  Most shots I hear are right before dark. No shots tonight actually.

We have a lane that goes between two large tracts of timber the county road snakes around it when they hit the corner they pull into the lane and actually shine both sides when they do that we start filming while they are still on private property and then when they come back down the gravel road getting someone to charge theseclowns is a diffrnt story. The DNR talks big but they are really into the bigtime cases remeber the purple paint laws what a joke we have five signs posted at gate and they all drive right by . We have turned in plates pictures shells etc and nothing some are innocent observers but we had two diff trucks jump out and take aim at our decoy until we hit them with a light funny you mention maquon thats wher one of our clowns is from

Yeah.  The purple paint thing is stupid. Since when were my 100+ bright yellow sign not enough?  I once blocked a trespasser’s truck on my property and called the cops.  When they showed up, I was told I was the one in the wrong and nothing was done to this POS.  Not even a trespassing ticket.  I’m a tually surprised that something real bad hasn’t happened yet in terms of retaliation.
