Been reading Deer and Deer Hunting Mag.  They try to tie the peak of the rut to the 3rd of November.  But the key is to spot the false rut in October because the big rut in November will be 28 to 32 days later.  So the time we find busy scrapes in October will predict the rut in November within the 24 to 36 hour short October doe estrus cycle plus 28 to 32 days.  When we find the October scrapes just add 28 to 32 days and it should be November rut time.  The Moon phase people say the prime time is around November 3rd here but the calendar people who I have more faith in say it should happen between November 8th to the 15th as it does every year.  So the October scrapes should show up where you hunt around October 1st to the 5th if the moon phase people are right but they shouldn’t show up until between October 11th the the 16th if the calendar people are right.  Remember, when the busy scrapes suddenly appear in October just add 28 to 32 days and plan your hunt off of that.  Write a post on here and list the county when you see the first busy scrape so the rest of us will know when to look.

I predict the first 3 weeks of November will be pretty ok time to hunt.  Not a rocket scientist but I’ll take a stab at it.

My bowcation is already on the calendar, 11/5-11/11 and 11/16.  Should be a few good days to be in the woods.  Well, the best case scenario is to shoot a booner on the 5th and chase greenheads the other days, but we all know it never goes that smoothly.

In the past I have normally taken my bow hunting vacation the entire week but I’m breaking it into two weeks this year.

So I’ll be hunting Sunday - Wednesday the first and second weeks of November.  My son’s select soccer cuts into my hunts on the weekends now; rather watch him play than hunt anyway.
