I am interested in coming to Illinois for the 2016 1st gun season with my dad. I have been told that the deer population isn’t what it use to be out there but Im assuming there are still bigger deer than where I am hunting now. Can anyone recommend a good outfitter? Also any other recommendations for big whitetail? Id like to spend under $3000 per person. Thanks for the help!

Nothing here in pike county . We are shot to hell . If i had to choose i would look into southern il as the herd there doesnt seem to be affected by over hunting and disease like ours is. But honestly i would look into kansas . Im sure you work hard for your money and most local outfitters around here will take your money and you will leave disapointed and feeling taken advantage of .

This is a bummer to hear. For the past 2 years all I heard about from someone was how great Ill is and they shoot 160 170 deer all day long.

10 years ago it was great but over hunting and diease has ruined a once great herd . Our state only worried about short term money from hunting and never considered the fact that uncontrolled selling of the resourse could lead to the disaster that has become our state deer management practices . Trust me il aint the place for mature deer. Kansas , kentucky, ohio or iowa are a better use of your money , time and effort . Good luck

If you are new to the site, scroll back through the stories on the home page for as far back as you care to read.  Any of them that have to do with harvest totals and such will be worth reading.  Be sure to go through all the comments at the bottom of the article.  It has been well hashed out on this site in the past few years.

I fully agree with what these posts. If your gonna drop the coin for an outfitter I would look elsewhere than Illinois. Deer hunting has become a mess here. 160s and 170s all day long? I have yet to see anywhere like that. I like the Kansas advice, heard a lot of good things/results from there. Good luck dude…
