Jo Davies- had 2 different 4ptrs chasing 7-8 does/yrlings by my stand (gotta admit heart started racing when i first heard the chase coming ha).  No Big Boys yet!  Hoping to see a few bigger ones cruising this weekend but still a little early, might be another week.

Small 7 point basket came in dead down wind of me. He was licking the air and had his nose to the ground at one point also. I had some buck bomb sprayed around on some trees and limbs in the area. I had also done some light rattling ten minutes before hand, but I’m pretty sure that’s not what got him close. Passed him at 5 yards broadside, let the little guy grow up!

Been seeing the same small group of does with fawns the last few days bedded on a hillside off the road a ways.  Looks like they’re hiding lol!  Haven’t seen any bucks with them at all.  Seeing them around 11 AM on my way to work.  That’s the only hunting I’m getting done right now.  Just thankful to have a good job these days.  Wish I was in a tree though!

Macon County. Like Andy, work and life is prohibiting me from getting in the field. However, family members have hunted our property and have been sending me reports and trail cam photos. Lots of activity in the past week. My dad shot a 3.5 year old 10 pointer last week that came in solo and was in “search mode”. This morning, some other family members were out and saw a buck fight before daylight (around 5:00 am). Heard lots of crashing through the woods. I’d say it’s just about on. I hope to be out there soon.

I had a nice 9-point come in from behind me 2 nights ago…directly down wind of me.  Passed under my stand within 3’ of my tree.  He hung out within 15 yards for over a half hour.  Seemed like he could care less about anything going on around him.  He was on his feet two hours before dark though.  Didn’t shoot him because I promised my daughter I wouldn’t.  She wants him bad!

Oh, we’ve also been seeing the same two adult does a lot lately without any followers.  Maybe they’re just ugly, I don’t know.

Fri the 25th in the evening I saw 10 different bucks traveling thru the woods in the last 2 hours of daylight. All were 130 and under . Also saw quite a few does and yearlings. I didn’t witness any chasing that night but my son on the other side of property said there was a small 6 chasing. Sat was slower and only saw a few small bucks in the distance and a couple does and yearlings. Did not hunt Sun morning but in the evening I hunted a field edge and the does and yearlings started entering the field about 4:15. About 5:15 I saw the first buck enter the field . I witness a small 6 chasing does hard . I passed a shot at a 140 buck because I could see the 150+ buck I am after around the corner from me but he never came my way. The 140 wasn’t chasing hard but was doing some light grunting and just walking towards the does. I believe the 150 was just working scrapes but it was hard to see thru the trees what he was exactly doing.

I am starting to see some activity but my property is still way behind last year at this time.  I am not getting anything close the number of pics I was getting last year.. yet.

Pike County- Bucks going nuts! Giants chasing everywhere- Booners out in every other section. Saw 15 bucks from the road chasing one Doe, and none were under 150”!!!

Can I come hunt with you, TIm?  Please?!  I have the only part of Illinois that doesn’t have a Booner behind every tree.

I hunted this morning (11/3) from dawn till 10:00am and did not see a single deer in Boone County.  I did not see any sign on my way in or out of my tree stand.  I tried to stay out of the woods and walk along the field edge to my stand.  If the rut is on I did not see any proof of it today.  I also have a camera set up close to my stand and there were zero deer on the camera.  I moved the camera on a deer trail close to my stand (about 50 yds away).  Hopefully the next time I check the SD card there is some proof that there are deer in the area…
