Believe it or not folks, it’s that time.

Lets continue the great hunt reports and keep a separate log on the Rut activity.

Don’t need to be specific on location, maybe just north, central or south state kinda deal.
Anything rut related.  Can be something you saw driving down the interstate or from the stand.  It all helps.

I know its started in some areas, so lets hear it.

Actually got some bigger bucks on the camera in the late afternoon.  First time in about a month.  Harvest related?

I took a quick walk today on a little patch I hunt here in central Il and found 2 nice scrape lines and several rubs.  I trimmed a few limbs and slipped back out.  I’ll be heading back in a week or so to give it a try.  We’re still a good week to week and a half away from the good action here.  The dinks are starting to harass the does pretty good but most of the older bucks are laying low from what I’m seeing and hearing from others.

There was a huge buck killed last week less than 1/2 hour from here while the corn was being cut.  Guessing he was in the corn and got pushed out.  Dressed out at 260!  Not a huge rack but a good one.  150”

North, last Friday had a basket 8 bump some does by stand, no chasing but definitely checking.  Buddy couple hundred yards away had a fork chasing does around him.  A lot of standing corn in the area, hoping that changes before things really heat up!

The guy I hunt with had three does come running in yesterday morning with a young buck chasing them grunting.  We built mock scrapes a few weeks ago with a drop bag and started picking up bigger bucks last Friday.  I think it also has to do with the corn coming out.  Halloween weekend should be a great weekend to be out.  We hunt in McLean county.

Guys, can we all try to at least list the county we have seen the “Rut Report” activity in?  It would be beneficial to anyone hunting the general area.  Heck we can even give the public hunting land guys a little help by listing the area the activity was witnessed in.  Hopefully we can share a little more specific general knowledge to help each other out…remember some of don’t live on the property we hunt or have to travel over an hour (or even more) to hunt a different county than we live in.

I’m in Macon county   Right in the middle of the state.
Drove around a little this morning.  Seen several does and their fawns.  No bucks with them but did find 3 dinks together in the back of a cut bean field feeding. Haven’t seen any big deer in a while.  That’s mostly due to the fair weather guys getting anxious and pushing them out already.  If the weather cooperates and stays like it is I think we’ll start seeing more activity in areas with less pressure.

Perry County.  I seen a couple small bucks getting aggressive last night, it was some pretty heated sparing.  The larger buck was trying to keep the smaller away from a doe, but she wasn’t interested and still had her fawn with her.

Macon County. More bucks showing up on trail cams. Still nocturnal though and not appearing to be chasing does yet. But increased presence on trail cameras nonetheless is promising that we’re getting close.

Tazewell County,  we saw several deer out Sunday morning on the way to a youth duck hunt.  One was a 8 point buck crossing the road.  We rarely see bucks in this area SE of Pekin.

Brown County, evening of 10/19.

I saw a big spike bumping does in a cut cornfield. My hunting buddy saw a forkhorn and a small 8 pointer (prob 1.5 yr old) sparring in a different cut cornfield.

No mature bucks spotted at all.

Northern Christian County - Been hunting evenings (no mornings yet), and mostly still in early season patterns.  I did see 2 button bucks travelling together (no mom around), so that’s a positive sign.  Next night saw 6 little bucks still hanging with the boys and shoving each other around.  No mature buck sightings yet, but hunting mainly field edges.  Plenty of scrapes around, and saw a 2 yr. old working a scrape line on the timber edge.

Picked up trail cams tonight and have a couple of bucks sparring on video, but the footage sucks and can barely see them.  Found a couple nice scrapes to hang cameras.  Saw 2 bucks chasing does and grunting 2 weeks ago already, although that was kind of a fluke I am sure.  Got 2 different videos of small bucks chasing and grunting on video in the last week.  It wont be long.  Last weekend is the first weekend I have been out of the tree with opening of duck, back in the tree this weekend and cant wait!!!
