Does anyone have a recommendation for a processing plant around Belvidere or Garden Prairie?  I am going to be hunting a new piece of land there and would like to know in advance where I can take a deer in if I am lucky enough to get one?

Bob, I’ve had good luck with Main Street Meats in Roscoe and if your looking for something closer to Galena there’s Eichmans in Seward (couple miles south of Pecatonica, off rte.20).  One other processor is Jones Meat over in Woodstock but thats heading further east.  Roscoe is the closest to Garden Prairie/ Belvidere but Eichmans would be closest for you to come back and get if your coming from Galena.  I’m sure there are more places and people that do it but these are processors I’ve used and been happy with.  Good luck!!

Bowhuntr,  Wow thanks for the great ideas…  I actually live in east of Garden Prairie in Buffalo Grove.  Main Street Meets is approximately 29 miles from Garden Prairie.  If you can think of anyplace east of Garden Prairie I could use the guidance driving closer to home.  Thanks again…

Bob, no problem, the only place I’ve heard good things about east of Garden Prairie would be Jones Country Meats in Woodstock.  Wish I could give you first hand recomendation but I’m up closer to roscoe so don’t get over that far east much (usually headed west towards Jo davies and Stephenson) but I’ve had a couple buddies tell me they were pleased with Jones.  Might be worth checking into them and it gets you headed in the right direction!!
Good luck over in Garden Prairie, I know that area isn’t what it used to be before the DNR hammered em because of CWD, but I think there starting to come back at least a little.  Definitely some good ones in that area. I know up in northern Boone County i’ve been seeing better numbers then just a couple yrs ago so might be hope yet.

Bow,  This is the first time I will be hunting Garden Prairie.  One of my students has grandparents who own a farm and nobody has ever hunted deer on the property before.  I hung a stand approximately 7 weeks ago and there are plenty of deer tracks around the area I hung it.  The land owner tells me he has seen plenty of deer around the past couple of seasons.  I hung a camera up close to my tree and I have not checked the SD card yet.  I was advised by many on this sight to wait until the first time I hunt this property to pull the card.  Hopefully I see a few deer and have to fine Jones County Meats with a big doe or buck!!!  Thanks again for all the advice and recommendations.  I will make sure I keep everyone updated on the hunt.

emailed the folks at Jones County Meats and they informed me that a typical cost for skinning, processing and packaging a deer would be $90.  Seems about right to me…
