Matt   We need a bowhunting pic thread that will stay on the main page even after new threads are posted.

I want to see some young bowhunters with their deer pics!  Good to see the kids having some success!!

Not going out for the opener, but the weekend looks like some cooler temps so I will be out Saturday morning.  Never too optimistic early in the season, but boy could I use some relax time in a tree watching the sun come up!!

I’m going to give it a shot Saturday afternoon.  I avoid mornings early season.  Good luck to everyone!

J currie, just out of curiosity, why do you avoid mornings in early season? You are not the first person I have heard say that and just wondering if there is a theory?

Generally, the deer I am hunting are feeding early in the pre-dawn hours.  In order to get to my stands I tend to bump them while they are feeding.  I’ve found it’s better, for me, to wait until afternoon when they are in their bedding areas.  I can quietly get to my stand and wait for them to re-enter the fields at dusk.

Leaving work at 4:30 to get on the stand. I’ve heard that too about mornings in October, but I just can’t help myself. Just purchased a new Mathews Heli m and I’ve been waiting about 9 months for tomorrow morning. Good luck to anyone else heading out!

We’re also heading out at 4:30, taking a guy with whose never bow hunted before, should be fun despite the temps.

Word to the wise, if you whack one try and recover as quickly as possible. I plan on packing the chest cavity with ice and skinning and quartering ASAP. From there the meat will go into large ice filled coolers. Time will be against you, with temps soaring (for October) into the lower 80’s by the afternoon. Should be a fairly cool morning to get everything done, if done properly. I doubt I bother with the afternoon, although near water or near dusk should still be productive. Good luck boys!

I’m waiting until Friday afternoon to go out for the first time this year.  It looks like a nice big cold front coming in. About a 20 degree drop from Friday to Saturday

Changed my plan to go out Sunday morning instead of Saturday.  61 degrees Saturday and sunrise vs 41 Sunday.  Supposed to be a 20 MPH wind Saturday too.  All days in the tree are beautiful, but Sunday morning looks like a perfect day to be in a tree!!!!
