Made it out for the first time today to pound the ground for some bone!  I found a 4 point side and a fork off a couple young bucks.  Both were on a food source and they must have hidden the other sides!!

just pulled my camera cards today.  Had quite a few half racks, one nice 9 included.  The other 9ptr showed up with both sides still on, and I had a dandy 8 come by with both sides still on.  When those two drop, I will be out looking, but not a chance I’ll be out until the majority of the bucks have dropped.  I also have a ton of ground behind my house with no cameras on it (not our property) that I obtained permission to shed hunt this year AND hunt next year.  Really looking forward to loadin a backpack with snacks, water, and binoculars and coverin some ground!

Does anyone out there know the answer to this question???  Can I legaly go onto a state park or forest preserve and shed hunt and remove the antlers I find?

I was ran out of Wolf creek state park by the game warden for she’d hunting a few years ago.

Good question Bob.  I just looked it up on the IDNR website.  It is not legal to remove bones or shed antlers from state parks in Illinois

I kind of figured after being ran out but just now looked it up

If I remember correctly, state parks and nature preserves (including federal land) are off limits.  You have to look at what the park is defined as.  For example… JEPC is a “State Fish and Wildlife Area”... and shed hunting is allowed because it’s not a “State Park.”  When in doubt… ask the superintendent at the park (if they have one anymore).

Will do Yellowstone

Good day today!  I only found 1 shed but I also only found 1 dead deer.  It was a beautiful morning to be out.  Seen a nice 150 class buck and 6 does between the two spots I hit.  Heading out again in the morning!

I don’t usually shed hunt until mid Feb or later because there isn’t much bone on the ground yet. I was doing something even crazier I guess, I was out putting up stands for next season and moving ones I don’t like. I will do that throughout February so I am pretty much ready to go by October. Time in the woods is time in the woods, doesn’t matter what you are doing. Ready to shoot some squirrels with my bow when we catch a warm day so they will move!

Yea Whitetail Freak, I can send you out a book too. PM me with your address, they are 10 bucks each.  Its a novel based on my 2011 deer season. Its about the changes in hunting, farming and the changes in peoples attitudes toward hunting. Its about the quest for the almighty antlers and the people who will do anything to get them. They are 10 bucks, unless you don’t want to pay me, then it is free, up to you.
