Followed the boys out to chase crows this morning armed with the Canon. smile

They managed 3 with no real scouting just out on a whim.

DJ enjoyed the outing.  This pup is all pup! :D

Oh, and
we had a few other visitors to watch!

Don’t know what part of the state you are in OZ….did not get a chance to see any swans this year because we froze up about a week ago. We hunt in Macon county. The geese never really have shown up either. Got a kick out of the great crow hunting pictures as well. I have not been in years but think I will check the game code flyer and go if there is enough season left. I have read some of your posts and enjoy them as you seem to be someone with pretty strong ethics in the field. The crows reminded me of a story my dad told me about going to the Illinois state fair back in the old days and a Dept of Conservation booth that was there serving crow sandwiches to promote the hunting of crows in Illinois. Don’t know if I am that hungry yet.

Thanks for the compliments Jedro.  I’m down in Madison county.  Close enough to the river and it just doesn’t seem to completely freeze up too lon down here any more.  We seem to only get a few ice fishing outings every 2 or 3 years or so…

I think Crow is in until the end of February, so there is time yet for you to get you some frexh crow sammiches! smile

Do you guys actually eat crows or just kill them for sport?  Fry them up?  Bake them?  Just curious cause I usually have 1/2 dozen or so out in the back yard.  Hate to be missing out on some good eats!

Crow is served in a similar fashion to coyote and coot.

One should take a plank of cedar and season well one side.  Place the meat on the board and place in the smoker for 8 hours.  After 8 hours remove from the smoker.  Toss the meat in the trash and eat the plank.

Well OZ the rest of the story is that my dad and grandpa did not buy a crow sandwich at the state fair….they decided to dress one out and make their own at home…but all they managed to get done was shooting some crows…when they were done hunting I am told my grandpa took the toe of his boot and rolled one of the dead crows over and said to my dad…“I don’t know about you…but I ain’t that hungry yet”...

Just found a recipe for crow casserole. Sounds disgusting!
6 crow breasts browned
Baked on a bed of saur kraut?(might be spelled wrong)
Chopped onions
Covered in bacon strips

Asian carp don’t sound too bad now!

Great pics OZ.

I always thought coon would be bad until I tried it.  I assume crow would be the same.  oh ya, the coon wasn’t good.

Long shot, small window, and a moving target makes for a bad hit!  He’ll have a limp for a while so maybe I’ll see him again!  It’s dark out here!  I’m heading for the truck!  Good hunt either way!!
