So who all got a tag out of the first draw? I have been keeping an eye on my permit status and on 12/12 it showed my permit was issued for my first choice.

I will be hunting Moraine Veiw SP the second season. This is my first time hunting spring turkey at the park but I have been hunting fall archery for a few years there. I hope I can get a second tag so I can try for one with a gun and one with a bow.

2nd season Sangamon My buddy has about 30 to 40 staying pretty much in his timber behind his house now. When hunting with a bow I hear em but they don’t come close enough to see. Watched them all through shotgun season, watched them feed, fight, carry on. He hunted Friday morning and he said they are still there but didn’t come in close. Were both going to try till the end of the season to get one. Darn things act like they know what weapon we are hunting with. What is surpriseing is these birds have been pretty much in the same area since mid Oct. From a piece of property I hunt next to this timber I have listened to them, watched them fly down in the morning and roost in the evening, talked to them but they just won’t give me a shot from that stand.

as to berlins comment about them being around in the fall. i spoke with my friend who has 30+ yrs of turkey hunting experience. his remark is that they normally dont stay in fall patterns in the spring. look for them elsewhere. in the spring their minds are on breeding. in the fall, its survival mode. i got my 1st season tag for morgan county. i won a turkey hunt at out nwtf dinner last fall. cant wait to use it.

Yep, come spring time they will bust up. They will be like the deer see them all the time until their season comes in. Hunted the same timber last spring and couldn’t get one tom to gobble. Lost two of my days of the season on a fishin trip that got planned after I put in for spring tag. Fishin trip is going to be August this year. Hey Control, you live in Morgan County? If so were almost neighbors!

Good for you, good luck on round 2. Where will you be hunting in Morgan? I will always think that Morgan, Macoupin, Greene are great hunting counties that don’t get much attention but the hunters keep pretty quite about it. The people I know that live in those counties all hunt or the family members do so I don’t even bother asking. And with the turkey really starting to take off around home why drive an hour when it takes 5 minutes or less to get in the truck and be back out ready to hunt.

Wish I had somewhere here around Macon county to go.  I haven’t been turkey hunting in 6 or 8 years.
