Been interested in getting a couple of hoop nets.  Growing up, I spent quite a bit of time with the grandfather.  He would do it as a hobby, since he retired.  I, too, would like to do it as a hobby, just for the adventure and surprises.  Anyone have info on where I could pick one, possibly two up at a decent price?  Also, I know you have to tar them.  Where in the Peoria/Fulton County area would I go to get it done?

I LOVE setting and pulling hoop nets…The amount of fish you catch, and the big ones ya net are unreal…The only problem now is the amount of asian carp that we seem too catch….Good luck!!!!!

I only used hoop nets and fyke nets to catch turtles.  These were not tarred and could be bought at most specialty outdoor stores. I think Ben Meadows carries them (at least once upon a time). Fun times.

It was for “research” that I did in college…..many moons ago…..with IACU and DNR permits. However, I’m not aware of any laws that preclude someone from using hoop traps on aquatic turtle species on private property, as long as no T&E species are involved.
