As the Conceal Carry topic is dominating Illinois this week, I am curious on everyone’s thoughts.  Why would YOU carry a concealed firearm?  I am a full supporter, but I won’t be in line anywhere to sign up for a class to get a permit.  I have a feeling that a lot of people that have been taking these CC classes over the last few years do it just to say they have it.  If ILL passes CC and you don’t already have a valid permit that would work in ILL, would you run out and sign up for a class?  If you had a permit, when would you actually use it?  Would I eventually get a permit, well sure.  I am sure there will be a time in my life when I feel I need to carry a firearm.  But in my life now, I don’t see the need.  But yes, I think we should be allowed to.

I’d be first in line Matt.  You wouldn’t know that I was carrying though.  I sort of think wearing one out in the open defeats the surprise angle.  I’d carry to and from work, everytime I go shopping (especially with my family), going to get gas/diesel, out to dinner, you name it.  I’d hate for some bad situation to occur while I have the right to carry but wasn’t.  Hopefully not, but maybe some anti-gunner will be in the local Shell station one day when a situation goes bad fast, and I have the opportunity to help.  Guns save lives, period!  Guns don’t kill people…people kill people.  And pencils don’t misspell words.

Very good question, I certainly believe as you do that we should have the right to cc if we choose to. Would I personally rush out to get a permit, the answer is no. Would I likely get a permit within 2 years of it being passed, yes. Would I carry and when? I can only think of a very small percentage of time I would carry. I do not feel a need to carry to feel safe. My faith is not in a fire arm. I do believe that elderly and other people more likely to be chosen as victims of some thug would feel much safer and perhaps be more active in pursuing activities. Could leave a bingo hall a winner and know they will make it home or to the bank with their winnings. It is my opinion that CC would reduce crime. Would make the choosing of a victim much more difficult for criminals not knowing who is carrying and who isn’t. Believe this would be a much greater deterrent than the chance they may or may not get caught and go to prison.

Primary reason for CC:  I will not be a victim for wackos and criminals.  Right now, I can protect myself in my home but cannot do so in the great state of Chicago (illinois).  Illinois Supreme Court recently approved the legal carry of unloaded handguns in your car/truck console.  We are getting there slowly.  Applied for Utah CC last week.  Honored in 33 states - all surrounding states of Illinois.  Spend lots of time in Wisconsin.  Bears and dangerous humans are my main concern.  And yes, I will be packing. I will have to spend time “properly transporting” through Illinois until I cross the border, but am willing to put up with the inconvenience.  Don’t know why anyone would spend the bucks if they didn’t want to carry.  My guess, if/when Illinois finally passes CC it will be for Illinois residents only, probably cost an arm and a leg and must be renewed every year.  Chicago will be exempt of course.

I have considered getting a reciprocating CC permit for years…The classes have all been to far away for the benifits to myself….If and when IL passes it I will sign up..Our local PD has been pushing for years to get it and I am sure they will be the 1st to put a class together…

As for why, it is simple…The same reason I wear and make my kids wear a seatbelt…To protect myself and my family in the event something would happen and statistics say they work…

hunterdave, I would hate to think, but I bet your right in that ILL would pass it only if ILL residents are the only ones allowed to carry and they will try and make a bunch of money in the process.  Only the rich have rights in this state, only the rich will be able to afford to CC.

I would be in line on day one. Not for any other reason than I want to be in a position to protect myself (and possibly others) from many situations that unfortunately occur everyday in our State and Country. It’s would NEVER be about flashing my weapon, or being a tough guy in a confrontation. CC is more about the last, final decision that a person might ever have to make. It is not to be taken lightly, nor would it in my hands. It is a RIGHT that our forefathers gave to us and in that right we understand the responsibility that comes with it. It is shameful that our State does not afford us the opportunity to protect ourselves, our families and our properties as was intended by our Founders. I would CC because I truly beleive that in itself- the idea of CC makes our Country actually BETTER!

Mallardmike…Don’t you love it how some of the politicians who support handgun bans disallowing citizens to protect themselves are themselves protected by armed security guards?  I remember Rosie O’Donnell and her big mouth being SUPER ANTI GUN!  Then it was found out that she had hired two armed gentlemen to escort her children to school.  Somehow her kids are worth more than mine?  I think not!

John- You hit it on the head. So many who either make decisions OR have a platform to spew their opinions about CC and guns in general are themselves separated from us ” the public” as they say. Their view is from such as distance that the front line is too hard to see. I’m not saying a bad guy is around every corner, and I’m not saying every citizen is able to handle a firearm at a level that is equal to let’s say you or I or many others on this site. What I am saying, is this is a RIGHT and it’s being withheld. Let me make the decision if I want to accept the responsibility to use such force and live with the decision. Don’t make that decision for me.

I have the Utah permit which is recognized in some 5 states.  I would probably not carry on my person but I would like to have a gun handy in the truck just in case.  Remember, you could carry a gun for 10 years and not need it.  One day you might and it might mean your life or that of a loved one.

We have CC here in Louisiana, which is honored by a bunch of states. The thing anyone must remember, when you get a CC permit, IF, gun bans ever come and they want your guns, they go to you first. Also, if your ever stopped by police, in any state, they run your license plate, and it WILL show you have a CC permit. Make sure if you do have a permit, you let the officer know as soon as he walks up and that you do have a weapon. There should be no problem as long as that state honors your permit, which you should verify before you carry in another state.
