Curious how ya boys and girls like your backstraps cooked? I either bacon wrap and grill or slice thin with some black pepper, then cook med rare in butter!!!
Season some flour, then flour the steaks, dip in milk & egg, reflour, pan fry. fry up some potatoes, make some gravy and pour on both./////////take olive oil, chopped garlic & onion and deer steaks fry in skillet a few mushrooms thrown in don’t hurt either-real good if done with morels and fresh aspargus on the side
I need a little encouragement from you H.O. vets so i can try to sleep tonight. The deer were real wound up this morning! I saw 15 deer before 8:15, 2 of them were shooters chasing does. The 2nd one presented a real nice broadside shot at about 22 yards. I took the shot and it was low and back which made my stomach sink. One of my best friends and hunting buddies helped me track the buck. We gave the buck over 4 hrs before starting. Once we started, we tracked for almost 5 hours and almost 5 miles. We found good blood the entire way and we finally jumped the buck at the end and he stumbled twice and bedded back down. We decided to back out and pick him back up in the morning. What are my realistic odds of recovering this deer in the morning?
JC Yea he bled the entire time, it was quite the workout tracking this buck. I will defenitly post pics. This buck actually might be very similar to your nice buck, as long as there isnt too much ground shrinkage.
When you jumped him, how far did he go before bedding down again? This will help you determine how hurt he is. If he didn’t go far, knowing that you are on his trail, he’s probably hurt real bad. He may be right there or very close in the morning. Good luck.
Everyone replied with encouragement and you were all right, i found him this morning after about 1.5 hrs of tracking right at first light. He was a good 500 yards from where i originally jumped him after the 5 hr track job yesterday. This was a great lesson in better shot placement. This was a gut shot due to the buck not stopping for the shot while chasing 2 does. I probably shouldnt have taken the shot, but i did and after a lot of work, i recovered this buck. This was the first buck i have ever shot at with a bow and he is not huge but an 8 pt that i am very proud of. Thanks for the advice everyone posted. The real help came from my buddies you helped me track this deer and then pull him out of the big pile of dead trees this buck bedded down in before dying. I am not exactly sure how to post the pics of this buck, otherwise i would
Attached are the pictures of the tough ol boy that i have been asking tracking questions about. This positive recovery were results of a lot of help from hunting buddies in the tracking and dragging him out of some this stuff in the end. All in all about 6.5 hrs of tracking and somewhere around 5 miles. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement!
Hey Freak, here is a pic of myself with the buck i had to work so hard to recover. I didnt think anyone would want see my ugly mug, just the handsome buck.
Thanks Freak, I have heard dream hunt stories about Adams but I am probably 2 hrs North of you, i think? I am located in Carroll County in NW illinois just south of Jo Daviess county. I do duck hunt in the pekin/manito area, specifically goofy ridge a few times a year. If your serious, I will be in contact next summer to discuss possibilities.
