Update on giant S. Illinois buck

Wed, November 30, 2011

Travis Cockburn shot this buck of a lifetime with his bow on Sunday.  It showed up on the trail camera in the summer, and this is the buck he set his sights on.

I green scored the buck last evening and it grosses in the mid 250’s with a net score in the low 240’s.  Just as it always is with big non-typicals, there will be a couple judgment calls on this deer that could change the score, but it won’t change the fact that this is one huge whitetail!

To date, this is the biggest harvested buck I am aware of this season and it could not have happened to a nicer guy.  Congrats Travis!

Theres 2 things i really like about this, 1 He is smiling,2 He looks like an everyday hunter who has done his homework and killed a monster!!!AWESOME JOB TRAVIS!!!!!

You are correct “Freak”.  Travis did this the right way and when it mattered, he made the shot.  It was a pleasure for me to meet with him and look at this giant deer.

Never thought I would see one with 14” bases.  He is truly large.

Out of curiosity, which county? Congrats on the monster!!!

He’s smiling?  I can’t see his face through all those points!

I cannot remember for sure, but the H-1’s on this deer are in the neighborhood of 8 or 8.5 inches.

It was killed in Williamson County.

Finally a guy who took his time setting up a nice picture for a beautiful animal. Congrats on the kill and a nice picture to honor him with, you will look at this picture a thousand times, and be glad you took the time to do it right!
